Náhuatl: mamaztli.

Currency of the Méxica Empire.

Quills are derived from the turkey quills filled with gold that were bartered for other goods in the great markets such as the tianquizco of Tlatelolco in lieu of currency. With the expansion of the Méxica economy beyond barter, the quills became standardized as coinage.
