The name of the period commencing in the early 18th Century giving rise to significant economic and technological change. The Age of Steam saw the introduction of steam-powered ships, railways and factories, having implications for printing and textile manufacture, as well as heralding in new military technologies such as iron-clad cruisers.

Steam power was pioneered by Doctor Sven N. Olesson and initially applied to pumps used to drain mines allowing the workings to extend to a greater depth than previously possible. The technology was subsequently applied to steam ships, with the Norsktrad demonstrating the first in 1724 AD. Later various nations began using steam, and by the mid 18th Century steam trains were in use in Europe, Afriqa and Asia.
