  • The seven Prince-Electors in the German Holy Roman Empire were lay or clerical princes who had the right to vote in the election of the king or Holy Roman Emperor.
  • With the rise of the Danish Empire the title was retained by several German princes but lost the right to elect the Emperor. Elector states within the Empire include:
    • Alsace
    • Thuringia
