==================================================== "GETMAPS" README FILE ==================================================== - System Requirements - GetMaps will run on any Win32 platform (95/98/NT/2000). - What Does "GetMaps" Do? - GetMaps fetches a list of 4 LOTE maps from the internet, saves them to your hard drive, creates a big map by pasting them all together, then makes several scaled versions of that file. - How Do I Configure GetMaps? - First you need to edit the configuration file, which is named "getmaps.xml". There are comments in the file to help you set it up. You will need to specify the 4 source maps that you want to use, the name of the 100% map, and information on any scaled maps that you also want created. - How Do I Use GetMaps? - After you have made your changes to the configuration file, just run the program. It will keep you posted as to what it is doing. If there is an error in your config file, it will tell you what the problem is. GetMaps will create 4 files, named "quad1.gif", "quad2.gif", "quad3.gif", and "quad4.gif". These are the 4 source maps. IMPORTANT: If these files already exist, it will NOT download them again. So if there are new versions of the maps available, YOU WILL NEED TO DELETE THESE 4 TEMPORARY MAP FILES. From these it will generate a 100% scale map file by pasting these 4 source maps together, then generate any number of scaled images as specified in your config file. - General Notes - The distribution comes with PerlCRT.dll. You can put this file in the same directory as the GetMaps program, or put it into your Windows system directory. - How Do I Get Help? - If you have any problems, you can email me: Robert Hanson
