The Gaelic Empire
( Aberdeen in Strathclyde )
Roman Catholic, Tech Level 009 - Renaissance
Emperor Erc MacAngus

Diplomacy and Warfare: Dyffed [T], London [+YFC] in Sussex

Once again King Angus concentrated on diplomatic gestures towards the new Gaelic Christians in Dyffed. Another branch was extended to the people of occupied London. Shortly after dispatching the delegations, Angus grew sick and perished, but not before issuing a request to Pope Innocent for help against the Gaelic heretics. Angus's son, Muireadach, would accept the crown, meeting the Papal delegation of Bishops and Inquisitors. But he too would perish at the end of the second year. Muireadach's brother, Erc, would take the throne without challenge.

When news of the Protestant break from Rome reached the Isles, the movement found many supporters among both the Gaelic Populace and among the Nobility. The entire Royal Family declares themselves Protestant, but it remains to be seen if Erc will officially recognize Protestantism as the State Religion.

The Protestant Reformation
( London is Sussex )
Protestant Catholic, Tech Level 008 - Renaissance
Edward Stuart, Arthur I

Diplomacy and Warfare: Norwich [MN] in Anglia [CA], Barmouth [AB] in Gwynned [CH], Liverpool [MN] in Lancashire [CH], Bristol [CA] in Wessex, Auvergne [CH], Brittany [AB], Bayonne [CH] in Gascony, Paris [MN] in Ile De France, Limousin [CH], Lyonnais [CA], Maine [CA], Cherbourg [MN] in Normandy, Avignon [CA] in Provence [MN], Vermandois [CH], Lebus [AB] in Kauyavia, Berlin [CA] in Lausatia [CA], Kolberg [CA] in Pomerania [CA], Pomern [CA], Kassel [CH] in Westphalia [MN], Alsace [CA], Franconia [CA], Swabia [MN], Zurich [MN] in Switzerland [CA], Erfurt [CH] in Thuringia [MN], Tyrol [MN]

Arthur is at first disheartened by the results of the Synod and soon receives missives from Innocent indicating his willingness to work on a Reconciliation. Arthur does not respond, instead locking himself away in the London Cathedral for three weeks, praying over the matter. When he emerges, it is with shocking news. "The corruption from Rome knows no bounds. It terrorizes and controls the Nobles of Europe with fear and petty grasps at power. No longer does the common man respect such an institution. This day I declare the Reformation a separate branch of he church. We will support all who seek to escape from the thumb of Rome. And if Innocent declares us Heretics because of our vision, so be it. We know what is right, and so does God."

With those words the faith of Northern and Central Europe was rent asunder. Great swaths of people voiced their support of Arthur's decision, France, the Gaels, Burgundy, Holy Rome, Poland, Denmark, Austria and Switzerland all supporting the movement to varying degrees. This issue spared few lands, few households, and it is not uncommon for one brother to support Rome while the second supports London. Four Archdioceses (Paris, London, Berlin and Zurich) joined under the Reformation, while the Archdiocese of Cork simply disintegrated due to the Protestant rise in the Isles.

[Rules Note: All Roman Catholic Nations must now choose which Religion (Roman Catholic or Protestant Catholic) to be State Recognized. Keep in mind that any regions and cities of the other religion have the potential to degrade in control level. Check your maximum control by religion chart (Religious House Rules) to see. Currently Roman Catholicism and the Reformation are tolerant of each other This could change depending on actions taken by both sides in the coming turns. Regions or Cities which hold a 50/50 split in Religious Percentage will count as whichever is chosen by the player. Nations which fail to note their choice will become the Religion of the current King.]

[Rules Note: This turn only the Reformation counts as a Heretical Religion to Roman Catholic nations. This means that in addition to normal Missionary Activities, Roman Catholic nations may use the Crush Heresy Operation on a given Region or City. Success will completely eliminate any Protestant Percentage in that Region or City as well as eliminate any Protestant site therein.]

With that he orders the losses to the Great Storm be rebuilt for the royal fleet and for diplomatic activity to continue in the North Afrikan regions then sets about taking an overt hand in the Government of the Kingdom. Princess Maria joins with Alexander, taking on the re-additions to the navy, and vigilantly patrols Portuguese waters. Missionaries see continued success in North Afrika.
