Mercenary QR’s c03, s02, i03, w04
Mercenary Leaders           Kotowari Haisen (M896)

United States of Asia (Nihon)

Jenguku Tohiro, First Minister of the Diet

Diplomacy Cheju Do(ea), Silla (t)

Tired of struggling to maintain trade with Shensi and Zhuangzu, Jenguku Tohiro declared that the USA would henceforth be a seafaring culture.  Trade with Shensi and Zhuangzu was reopened at the increased distances.  Amgu was allowed to chart is own path.  Owari explored the passage to Taiwan via Okinawa, with minimal losses.

Many of the heavily forested regions did not like the new ocean-oriented culture; and Japanese control of them declined.  Edo, Jenna, Kobi, and Kentosani all expanded.

The Kingdom of Mongolia

Jasmir, Kucha Khan, "The White Demon"

Diplomacy None

Jasmir circled the wagons and rattled off a few baby boys.  All was well in northern Asia.

The Lu'an Chinese Kingdom

Mao Cheng, Supreme Monarch of Lu'an

Diplomacy None

See Honan.  Mao Cheng declared Chou'En and Chaing Lu dangerous renegades and vowed to recover the capital and the lost provinces.  The Lu'an Chinese Kingdom controls Lu'an, Liao-Tung, Hsuing Nu, Bao Ding, Tsainan, and Kiangsu.

The Yen Chinese Kingdom

Chou'En, Supreme Monarch of Yen-Ching

Diplomacy None

See Honan.  Chou'En declared his independence from Honan and Lu'an and vowed to reunite the kingdom under his leadership.  The Yen Chinese Kingdom controls Yen, Shangtung, and Hopei.

The Honan Chinese Kingdom

Chaing Lu, Supreme Monarch of Pienching

Diplomacy None

Things started out well enough.  Chou'En and the heir Mao Cheng went to Lu'an to defend the northern frontier.  Prince P374 and Chaing Lu stayed in the capital.  No hordes came to attack the Chinese.  But when Mao Ling died in his sleep in May of 1023, things went to heck.  The greedy lieutenants Chou'En and Chaing Lu both tried grabs for power.  Mao Cheng chased Chou'En out of Lu'an to Yen.  Mao Cheng was able to keep control of the northern regions.  Chou'En carved himself a small kingdom in the center of the former kingdom.  Chaing Lu chased Prince P374 from Honan to Tsainan.  Prince P374 remained loyal to his brother Mao Cheng, keeping the southern reaches under loyalist control.  The Honan Chinese Kingdom controls Honan only.  Parhae rebelled.

The Shensi Chinese Kingdom

Qin Guan, King of China

Diplomacy Chinling (t), Ordos (ne)

Qin Guan stayed at home, had a large and beautiful wedding, and a couple of children.  The heir Qin Sheng went to Ordos to talk them into a closer relationship with the Kingdom, but died too soon.

Luh-Erh expanded.

The Ch’in Kingdom

Che Teh, Divine Overlord of the Middle-Kingdom, Lord of the River

Diplomacy Ganzhou (a)

Che Teh continued his wise and benevolent rule of the Celestial Kingdom.  Jong Mah and the heir Che Hua obtained an alliance with Ganzhou after the marriage of Che Hua to the local lord's daughter.

For the public good, improvements were made to various regions.  Jiujiang expanded.

Bacphan Zhuangzu

King Tzou, Overlord of South China

Diplomacy Gouangxi (nt)

King Tzou finally had a boy despite his advanced age.  General Wu took a cruise around the South China Sea.  General Chang travelled to Gouangxi to bring them into the kingdom.  The region agreed to allow Zhuangzu free passage through the region.

Tonkin, Vijaya, Hong Kong, and Saigon expanded.  The port city of Shantou was founded in Kwangtung.

The Celestial Kingdom of the Jade Buddha

Singh Hao "the Generous", 4th Incarnation of the Blessed Jade Buddha, Light on the Path to Nirvana, Illuminator of the Human Soul, Thinker of Deep Thoughts, Mayor Shangri-La

Diplomacy Nan Chao (ca), Burma (ca)

Singh Hao concentrated on bringing his control web of religious sites up to snuff.  Great statues of the Buddha were crafted and gilded with gold for the cathedrals in Nan Chao and Burma.  Cash continued to pour in from the rich Chinese provinces.  Of course, such worldly concerns as money and power are not the way to enlightenment.  But who's complaining?

The Pacific Rim and Southeast Asia
Mercenary Troops 19mc, 20mi, 20ms, 25mw, 10mt
Mercenary QR’s c03,s04,i03,w03
Mercenary Leaders           Korash Sharana (M846)

Yamma Lamma, Chief He’e Nalu-sen

Diplomacy None

The perfect waves continued to roll in from the eastern ocean.

The Molucca Seahold

Te Rangi, Arikara of the Molucca Te Anu

Diplomacy None

Time flies when you're having fun.

The Javan Federation

Ronoboraja, President Sirivjavan

Diplomacy None

The Javan Federation's small size made their university highly effective.  Scholars came from all around the Pacific to absorb knowledge from this font of wisdom.  The prestigious Moluccan University was also highly sought after.

Boronoraja built a new port city on the Chinese island of Hainan.  He wanted to call it Hong Kong, but Zhuangzu already has a city by that name.  So eventually the name Yaxian was adopted.  A new senate president was elected: Ronoboraja.

The United Monarchy of the Avans

The Celestial, Virtuous, and Benignant King Anisakan II, Monarch of all Burmese People, Munificent Potentate of Pegu, Dispenser of all Avan Goodness and Benevolence

Diplomacy None

After all the excitement of the past five years, King Anisakan took a few years' vacation.

India
Mercenary Troops 15mc, 15mi, 25ms, 13mw, 15mt
Mercenary QR’s c04, s04, i04, w02
Mercenary Leaders           Shalbeb (M767)

Palankala

Kanamori, Guardian of the Ganges, Divine Wrath of Kali

Diplomacy None

The Cholans convinced Vengi to renounce Kanamori's claim.  Palankala contracted an executive search firm to find them some leadership.  Open for a player.

The city of Bhuphaala increased in size.

Xanthi Empire of Xanadu

Palpatyn III, Grand Poobah of the Xanthi Zieterund, Rajah of the Rajputs

Diplomacy Avanti (t)

Ramesevka and Jerin went to Avanti, planning on offering marriage to Palpatyn IV's eldest son.  Their efforts were somewhat blunted by two factors: the venerable Jerin's death, and the fact that dynastic marriage requires the presence of the king or heir.

Thousands and thousands of workers descended upon the southwestern provinces to upgrade the long postal road to a royal one.  Now the mighty highway runs all the way from Xanth to Kalyani.

The Chola Mandalam

Nefulasa, Mandala Chola

Diplomacy Kakatiya (c), Madurai (ea), Vengi (c), Sri Lanka (fa)

The Cholan nation sprang into action.  Tuarshtra named Nefulasa as his heir in case he died childless.  Then Tuarshtra did just that.  Nefulasa took over without incident.  Then he convinced Vengi to renounce its ties with Palankala and announce good will toward Chola.

Fasyai travelled north to the region of Kakatiya, and discussed the unification of the region with the Kingdom of Chola.  He offered to marry the local ruler's daughter to solidify relations between the nations, but Raj Kakatiya informed Fasyai that only marriage with the king or heir would be good enough.  But a token agreement was reached after all.

Aqueducts and irrigation ditches were installed in the souther regions.  In the heavily wooded region of Belur, settlers, craftsmen, and laborers hacked down trees, leveled ground, and carved a city from the wilderness.  It is called Tiptur.

Sultanate of Sind

Mehmet, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus, Barrier of Allah

Diplomacy None

Mehmet slumbered, but a few troops were built anyway.  Open for a player.

The Middle East
Mercenary Troops 9mc, 8mi, 7ms, 20mw, 20mt

The Abbasid Caliphate

Mahtaub, Kaliphat Rasul Allah

Diplomacy None

The mighty Abbasids weren't worried.  They have an army to stop any aggressor.  A few transports were built to boost the trade income.  Open for a Player.

Imam Al Muslim

Ali Mahdi, Siadat Kuran, "The Sustainer"

Diplomacy Mesopotamia (mn), Ad'Diffah (ab)

Many holy sites were proposed, but only a couple succeeded because of the small amount of time spent on each one.  There were strange goings on in the Fatimid Empire.  The Sustainer lowered slightly the taxes due from the Islamic nations.

The Fatimid Empire of Egypt

Jafan Amal, Guardian of the Holy Places, Emperor of Egypt.

Diplomacy Suakin (t), Alwa (nt)

A few more locations were searched for cultic influences.  Some turned up nothing, but in Mansura, Jafan proved he still has the ability to sniff out suspicious activities.  Another mysterious cave was discovered.  The search party approached with caution and much backup.  But when they entered, they found no living creature within.  Golden crosses and chalices decorated the walls.  A beautiful mosaic covered the ceiling.  The few weapons stored in the cave appeared to be of Byzantine origin.  Jafan found a secret compartment concealing a few scrolls of papyrus with mostly strange writing on them.  After a half an hour of searching and examining, the hair on the back of Jafan's neck began to stand up.  It was time to leave.  Jafan reported to his father, only to find that he had just died.  Jafan took over the empire.

Additional residents moved to Tobruq, Al-iskandariyah, Al-maraghah, Al-'aqabah, Al-uqsur, and Amman.

Eastern Europe
Mercenary Troops 7mc, 8mi, 10ms, 12mw, 20mt
Mercenary QR’s i03, c03, s03, w03
Mercenary Leaders           none

The Eastern Roman Empire

Justin, Imperator Romanus Orientalis

Diplomacy None

Looking forward to a few quiet years, Justin returned to Constantinople and took up the reigns of power.  He gave Theodore a large army with which to guard the western portion of the empire.  It turned out that dear Theo was not much concerned with the well-being of the empire.  Sitting in Thrace and thinking of his own glory, he declared himself emperor.  This was a shock to the empire.  Many of the loosely held outer provinces rebelled: Ludgorie, Serbia, Attica, Isauria, Rhodes, Pamphyla, and Galatia.  Justin retained control of Constantinople, Paphlagonia, Bithnia, Lydia, Phrygia, and Psidia.  He has vowed to liberate the European regions from Theodore's traitorous clutches.

The Byzantine Empire

Theodore, Imperator Romanus Orientalis

Diplomacy None

Theodore controls Thrace, Dobruja, Bulgaria, Macedon, Thessaly, and Morea.  He has vowed to liberate the Asian regions from Justin's decadent grasp.

The Varangian Empire of Kiev Rus

Piotyr Nechesik, The First Czar of Kiev Rus

Diplomacy Patzinak (see below)

Piotyr declared a capital: Cherson on the Black Sea.  He wanted to send some trade ships to the Fatimids and Abbasids, but his trade range is too short.

The khan of Patzinak had left specific instructions with his scouts.  "Those slimeball Kievans might come back even though we chased them out a couple years ago.  If they come, light bonfires to signal me.  One if by land, two if by sea."  Sure enough, early one morning he woke up and spotted one bonfire in the darkness far away.  "Sharpen your swords," he told his guards.  A few hours later, a horseman came riding through the base camp.  "The Kievans are coming!  The Kievans are coming!"  The khan put the army on alert.  By the time Piotyr, Dmitrij, and the allies from Seversk and Muscovy showed up, Patzinak was ready for them.  The Kievan diplomatic contingent was dismayed by the distinct lack of enthusiasm for their presence.  They pressed their case anyway.  All four leaders begged Patzinak for forgiveness.  Again and again they bowed and scraped before the Patzinak khan.  Finally, Patzinak agreed to a royal marriage and a claim on their region.  Patzinak (c).

Piotyr released Courland and Lithuania from the kingdom.

Kingdom of Russia

High Lord Vostov Borislov, the Wanderer, King of Russia

Diplomacy Livonia (t), Novgorod (ea), Latvia (a), Veposkava (ea)

Vostov ordered improved relations with the nearby regions.

The Polish Kingdom

Marko Brodzinski, King of Poland

Diplomacy Thuringia (f), Franconia (fa), Bochnia (a), Moldavia (c)

Bram stopped by the slave pen on his way to Thuringia.  "Hey guys," he addressed the guards, "I need to pick up several hundred to build some paths in Thuringia."  "Your majesty," one replied, "If you value your life, I recommend that you bring some soldiers along with you to escort them."  "Oh, yeah," the king responded sheepishly.  "I was just testing you."  With an escort of a couple hundred pikemen, he visited Thuringia and Franconia, and had some diplomatic successes.  Back in the homeland, L72A was left alone with the bulk of the army to defend against invasion.  Nothing happened.  In 1025 Bram died and Marko became king.

Morgenthaler collected slaves from Danzig, Prussia, and the eastern frontier, losing only a couple hundred men in the process.  The Pomern Duke was a rather unconvincing missionary in Pomerania, especially with the region hearing of the kidnapping of their cousins in Danzig and Prussia.  Then the Duke of Pomern died, and the region opted to leave Poland entirely.

Land trade with Turquis began.

The Liao Horde

Tung, Liao Khan

Diplomacy None

Tens of thousands of Liao cavalry are milling about in Carpathia.  See Island Khanate of Khitan.

The Osman Horde

Sokhi, Osman Khan

Diplomacy None

Mercenary Leaders           Mario "the Younger" Orsini (M557)

Denmark

Halfner, Imperator Danmark

Diplomacy Orkney (nt)

Halfner consolidated his grip on the empire.  A few kids came along to ensure the succession.  The longships that had been misplaced in the fracas a few years back turned up safe and sound.  After Forkbeard talked for almost five years, the Orkneys agreed to allow Denmark to move freely through their islands.

Grand Duchy of Verona

Leonardo Maquina, Grand Duke of Verona, Defender of Italy, Chosen of Christ, Shepherd of the Faithful

Diplomacy None

Leonardo took a vacation.

The Lombard Kingdom of Italy

Mario D’ Orsini, Rex Sognari

Diplomacy Swabia (c)

Mario Orsini II died in the summer of 1021, the victim of a heatstroke.  His 10 year old son Ludovico became emperor.  The boy's mother and the loyal Antonio Gradenigo are giving him a hand for now.

The Roman Catholic Papacy

Innocent V, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ

Diplomacy Sussex (ab), Vermandois (ab), Savoy (ca), Bochnia (mn)

Il Papa had a few calm years.  He expanded the network of religious sites.  If only he were rolling in dough like his Islamic and Buddhist counterparts...

Kingdom of Turquis

Soloman II, King of Turquis, Champion of the True Faith, Lord of the Franks

Diplomacy Lorraine (t), Burgundy (c), Provence (t)

Soloman II sent his leaders out to enlarge the kingdom.  He was happy to hear of the success in Provence.  Now Turquis had a port on the Med.

After a few years in Burgundy, the Osman Khan finally met his maker.  The Osman warriors chose a new khan, Sokhi, who was not nearly as buddy-buddy with the Turqs.  Soloman II offered to continue paying for their life of luxury in France, but the Sokhi declined.  In fact, he took his toys and went home, toward the rolling plains of Asia.  By the end of 1025, the Osman Horde had made it to Slovakia for the winter.

The Island Khanate of Khitan

Altan the Red-Handed, Thunder Lord, Khagan of the Khitan

Diplomacy Hah!

Altan wanted to complete the conquest of England with a bang.  He rounded up over a dozen thousand cavalry and enslaved the entire population of Wessex, replacing them with Khitanese settlers.  Everything else was going well, too, until the Liao khan died in Holland.  The Liao tribe selected Tung as their leader, and determined that England would not be a suitable home for them.  So off they went, over hill and dale, not stopping until they reached Carpathia.

Wessex is Roman Catholic.

The Kingdom of Sussex

Edward III Saxon King of England

Diplomacy None

Things went from bad to worse.  The last shred of England was trampled under the hoofs of the Khitan.

Kingdom of Eire

Roalf, Defender of the Cross, High King of Eire

Diplomacy None

All was not peaceful on the Emerald Isle.  Cedric's death was a time of difficulty.  Ulster, the Hebrides, and the Isle of Man left the kingdom.  Oh, well.  It was a bloated kingdom anyway.

Ummayad Caliphat Al Cordoba

Asad Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel’s Bane

Diplomacy None

Asad Nasir kept an eye open for acts of aggression.  He and his son Mustapha produced a few more royal offspring.

Naranjo grew larger.

The Saharan dust settled over the kingdom.  But then a new player took over.  See ISI list.
