TURN 17 ORDERS DUE BACK BY Friday, 20 Jun, 1159pm to eddief6@ix.netcom.com
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS
New version, 3.1 m, running apparently normally. The last few version were sketchy when doing some computations, especially support costs, so please examine your stats closely this turn and next. Also, when reloading the turn 14 backup files, some player balances appeared incorrect to me, so check your balance and advise me if it appears wrong. Thx.
A note on international trade:
When trying to solve the question of effectively using transports and msp, know that the trade capacity of a reoute is equal to the added values of the participating nations' Internation Trade Values. This sum is shown on each route, as the TTV (Total Trade Value). Now fro the transports and msp. If the combined eMSP of the two nations (these values are also listed for each trade route) are greater than the TTV, the FreeCap of the route is negative, indicating the route has too many trade ships on it. Conversely, if the sum of the eMSP values is less than the TTV of the route, the FreeCap is positive, and there is room for more money to be made by assigning more ships to the route. Note that keeping a positive FreeCap on routes is one way of gaining msp for free, as some are generated by the program on each route with room for them.
A separate note on trade routes:
At some point in creating trade routes, the prog began assigning duplicate id numbers to multiple routes. I discovered this little item when I (and some players) noted there were trade routes on stat sheets with impossible partners. Such as Chinese nations trading with African or European players. Examining the trade routes all together, I discovered this duplicity, and set about changing it. Some trade route numbers will have changed on this turn's stat sheets, and the only trade route number which should ever be repeated from here on is 00000, that being designated for all inernal trade and fishing fleets. The gold calculations to my knowledge are all accurate, but there has been one report of miscalculation, which I haven't been able to verify.
If you need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.

The theater maps plan isn't working out as well as I had wanted. For some reason, the combination LView/PBrush programs cause serious delays when working with both wide and tall (~3000x~4000 pixel) images. For whatever reason, I have gained much better speed from PBrush when working with tall (2000x6000) images. So here's the direction for maps. I'm in the process of assembling columns for the world, of which there will be eight. #1, #2, and #3 will be he new world. #4 through #8 will be old world. This have the very handy benefit of not requiring me to update several maps with each new city/road/fortress/MC/etc... Further advantage is the gain in resolution by reducing the original maps to only 50% instead of 33%. What I'd give for 128 Megs of RAM.
I realize this project isn't going fast enough for everyone, I really wish I had an spare two weeks or get it all done, but I don't so I gotta do it a few hours at a time. According to the schedule below, this is a setback, but the editing speed, resolution gain, and elimination of redundancy made it irresistable to me.
Here's the plan...
Phase 1 Assemble maps, fix all boundaries and missing data [#3 and #4 assembled]
Phase 2 Ensure correct terrain and religion in all regions, (GPv/RV)'s
Phase 3 Ensure correct cities (sizes, names, ports, fortresses), roads, and MCs
RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS
Please read the rules addendum, on the Lords20 web site.
Leader Intel Actions:
Leaders can attempt to perform intel actions each turn now. See the rules addendum for specifics.
Standing Orders:
Finally, please don't submit "standing" orders. Just include them in each orders form, and I can much more easily take care of these orders, or at least have no excuse for forgetting to run them.
Infantry (500 men = 1 point)
Cavalry (500 men and 500 horse) = 1 point)
Siege Engineers (500 men = 1 point)
Warships (5 ships = 1 point)
Transports (5 ships = 1 point)

KUCHA HORDE
Mishrak, Kucha Khan
DIPLOMACY:none
While meditating at an oasis, Khan Mishrak received a vision:
"No one listens to the Word I gave them. Therefore, let them remember what it was like in the time of Old. My Father will give you the power to correct the attrocities in His Name, but go now into the wilds and gather your strength. He will speak unto you when your service is needed, only then will you join with the Armies of Michael and Gabriel to smite the foes of your Lord."
Mishrak was much confused by the bit about about the Father, who Michael and Gabriel were, and who his Lord was. To his knowledge he was his own lord, but he saw a vision of his army being much larger than it currently was, so he set out to make it happen. East, he led the clans, through the central Asian steppes, gathering waht forces he could manage. Bypassing India and China, he finished his search for more men in Mongol, on the banks of the Ozero Bajkal.
UNITED STATES OF ASIA (JIHPEN)
Suiei Ma, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY:none
Although his Vice didn't live more a year into their second term, Suiei Ma won the opportunity to continue his executive work in Nippon, mostly due his own innate charisma. He won friends in the Yakuza banks by repaying some of the monies borrowed in the previous years, while expanding the merchant fleets. The Jihpenese took a short recess from the mass urbanization and diplomatic projects of earlier years, as Suiei sent nearly all of his leaders on vacations of one sort or another.
THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Lao, God-King of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: none
Although Quian Lao was a few years older than his generalsand allies, he managed to outlive them all. He appointed his natural son, just a tyke really, at only 31 years old, to be his heir, and promoted a select few of his field grade officers to the command ranks. The King of Taiping died at 53 years old, and lacking the wherewithall to stand in the wind of the coming storm, declared its allegiance ti Quian Lao.
THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Mao Hu Lei, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: At a time like this?
Emperor Lei continued the preparation for the coming horde, building dozens of local forts in the northern border regions. All armies were placed on their highest state of alert and scouts searched for signs of the Kucha Khan's location. It wasn't too difficult after about 2 years, when the horde passed through Tangut and Kerait, looking for the Eastern clans to join his horde. Expecting imminent invasion, the Honan scouts bolted to their Emperor with their news of impending doom. The failure of the horde to turn south lended little in the way of confidence to Mao's outriders, and more than a couple were curiously absent from formation calls.
THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Cheng Ho, Storm Fist, King of China
DIPLOMACY:Yun (f), Lanchou (t)
The Storm Fist was overjoyed to see his son reach the age of majority, and truthfully, so was his son Cheng Ping. Now he could really live the good life! All the pleasures of the royalty would now be his, or so he thought. Cheng Ho had much different plans for Cheng Ping. He was raised to the position of heir, and revered by most thoughout the kingdom. However, he was moved out of the houses of wives and concubines, and moved into the most spartan of dwellings in the royal compund. Living with the royal guards, he recieved no luxuries, no soft pillows, no sweet foods, and absolutely no warm female bodies at night. Being of royalty, and not really of the military class like the royal guardsmen, he became truly alone. His tutors brought him lessons in administration, leaderhip, warcraft, and diplomacy, some of which he actually retained. That is, after he relieved himself of a rather large chip on his shoulder.
BACPHAN ZHUANGZU
Xian Ven, Overlord of South China
DIPLOMACY: none
The South Chinese were uninstructive.
THE INCREDIBLY PEACEFUL CELESTIAL KINGDOM OF THE JADE BUDDHA
Singh Hao, 4rd Incarnation of the Blessed Jade Buddha, Light on the Path to Nirvanah, Illuminator of the Human Soul, Thinker of Deep Thoughts, Mayor of Shangri-La
DIPLOMACY: none
Singh Hao meditated. A lot.

DIPLOMACY:none
Orders from the Burmese failed to arrive. Again.
THE JAVAN FEDERATION
Cankuang, President Sirivjavan
DIPLOMACYnone
Rangat spent his time in the capitol runnign the boring affairs of state, and sent his leaders to the mainland Hindi regions to bring their souls closer to the enlightenment of Bhudda. He himself didn't live to see their results, though, as he passed on to his next incarnation in 977. In the most unusual of circumstances, his two religious diplomats also died that month, although rumors that the deaths were simultaneous were never proved. Vice President Binshai completed the term, arranging the foundation of the new port Madura in Hainan, but lacked the resources to gain a full term of the Presidency for himself.
THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Mano Oio, Son of Sea and Sky
DIPLOMACY: Sabah (a), Sulawesi (c), Mindanao (c), Sarawak (nt), Palau (c), Marshalls(c)
The Maaori diplomats went way over the horizons to gain the fealty of the islanders of Oceana., while the homeland defense fleet went on maneuvers in waters close to the capitol, testing their remarkably different techniques against one another. New trade was established with the South Chinese in Kwangsi.
THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Samma, Chief He'e Nalu
DIPLOMACY: none
After several generations of vested interest in changing the economic premise of life in Australia. The landowners of the kingdom still retained much of the wealth, but indentured servitude was officially outlawed, and new labor organizations grew inside certain professions, such as merchant, smith, and housebuilder. Yamma Samma's great-grandfather smiled from his watery grave.

EMPIRE OF THE LOWER GANGES
Narayanapala III, Guardian of the Ganges, Divine Wrath of Kali
DIPLOMACY: Samatata (a)
The Chinese weren't the only people with anxious eyes looking north. Narayanapala continued his endeavors to gain an alliance with the Samatatan leaders, and built his own defenses in Gaur and Maghada. Dharaharama was expanded in Assam, and more forts built there as well. THe Ganges Guardian prayed to Shiva the Destroyer to spare his people from another war.
XANTHI EMPIRE OF XANADU
Palpatyn II, Grand Poobah of the Xanthi Zieterund
DIPLOMACY: Chitor (f), Anhivarta (ea), Vatsa (f)
Palpatyn's diplomats were in the neighboring allies' regions promoting closer unions to the Empire, and succeeded with the gloom of the Kucha horde perhaps influencing the local lords to swear allegiance to the Emperor. The coastal town of Amicah in Chitor was the recipient of Imperial funds in building proper docks, and the city of Amchan was founded there. The economic depression from the Palas and Burma Wars was nearly over when Emperor Palpatyn died in 976, and his son Yotan assumed the title and power of the Grand Poobah. His own son Palpatyn III, then 20 years old, was officially designated heir to the Empire. Two years into Yotan's reign, the aftereffects over overtaxation were finally eliminated, and the Xanthi Empire finally began to see the full potential of its economy.
THE INDUS VALLEY KINGDOM
Mushtaq, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus
Indus Valley orders did not arrive.
DIPLOMACY: none
THE CHOLA MANDALAM
Arou, Mandala Chola
DIPLOMACY: Malabar (t))
Arou invested heavily in the economic future of his people, especially in the homeland and capitol. he sent his most talented diplomat to Malabai in an effrot to bring that region into the nation, but his diplomatic skills were strictly marginal. Even with assistants in and around the province, the Malabari only agreed to send tribute to Arou in return for protection from the northern Indians. In a measure to improve the readiness of the Mandala Army, mounted garrisons in Belur, Gangas, and Madurai were replaced with footmen, and the cavalry reinstated to their original units.
IMAM MUSLIM
Koshtan, Siadat Kuran
DIPLOMACY: none
Imam Koshtan continued his efforts to gain the financial backing of the Muslim world, and continued to send his religious leaders out to preach the faith. Over half of Nubia replaced their Separatist Christian faith with Islam, and new religious sites were set up in North Africa. Proclaiming to be the recipient of Truth from Allah, Koshtan gained the support of most of the ruling class in Mecca, where people are taught to never doubt the word of the Sufi.
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Mahtaub, Kaliphat Rasul Allah
DIPLOMACY: none
The expansion of the urban centers in the fertile crescent resumed, with the expansion of Kirkuk, Alzaj, Kamizak, Bushehr, Raja, and Kraznovia. The island of Crete was officially recieved from the Lombards, and trade was initiated from Alzaaj to the Moravids in Tunis.
THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Ghaseb Pesar, Sahib, Kophatshah
DIPLOMACY: none
The Persians concentrated their forces into one main body , and set it up where it might be of some use against any horde which might have the inharmonious nature to come down and wipe out all of civilization. Walls were rasied even higher around the capitol city, and all those who saw them became convinced of their security and strength.
WEST EUROPE

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
Bendictl VII, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Papal States, and Servant of the Servants of God
DIPLOMACY:none
Financial assistance went from the Papacy to the Byzantines and to Poland, while governmental assistance went to Denmark and Poland. But by far the biggest investment made by Pope Michael V was in his own organizational infrastucture. Huge sums of gold were spent providing communication plans from the religious sites to the Vatican. Besides delegating the expenditures of the Papacy, Michael and his Cardinals spent their time cloistered in the Basilica walls, and failed even to collect the tithe from the European Catholic nations. The closed in walls and stale air gave Il Papa a coughing disease, and the council elected a Spanish Cardinal, who then took that title Benedict VII.
THE KINGDOM OF FRANCE
Demetre Aguille, King of France
DIPLOMACY: none
French orders were absent.
THE DANISH KINGDOM
Swain Adalsson, Rex Danmark
DIPLOMACY: Saxony (down to a), Lorraine (f), Westphalia (down to t)
The Danish diplomats were escorted to their assignments by non other than King Swain, and everything was falling in the Danes' favor. Their hosts were more than pleased to offer complete allegiance and alliance to the Danish crown, but as before, Polish diplomats returned to sway complete favor from falling to King Swain. Rex Denmark spent most of his time in Lorraine, and with the accompanying 36,000 man army, the Polish employed diplomats became painfully unwelcome. At this point they continued to Saxony and Westphalia and convinced those leaders to refrain from acceeding to tally to the Danish diplomats' entreaties. Aside from the diplomacy-contests going on, a new port city, Emden, was raised in Friesland.
THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Mario d' Orsini, Rex Sognari
DIPLOMACY: Swabia (f), Sicily (a), Campania (f), Franconia(c to Poland), Bavaria (down to fa)
The central European wars began again in earnest in the diplomatic arenas of the remains of East Francia, as Lombard, Pole and Dane peacemakers volleyed for the favors of the German Dukes. Having been refused actual tribute from the Franconians, the Lombards restricted their aims to Swabia and the remains of the Neapolitan Kingdom. Prince Julian himself was at the forefront of the Swabian negotiations. The cause for such intense negotiating was soon apparent, when as soon as the diplomatic agreements were reached, construction began at the river hamlet of Heidelburg of a port fortess. Bavaria's tribute ceased to flow thanks to Polish diplomats, even after the Italian heir Luigi II was wed to the Bavarian Duke's daughter, and Franconia foreswore its nominal allegiance to Mario. To make matters worse, after granting their Swiss ally the ownership of 5,000 previously national spearmen, he had the arrogance to go and die. His replacement was even more arrogant, and refused to renew the Swiss/Italian alliance. To make war on the Poles for their actions wasn't in Mario's thoughts, however, being more interested in improving the levies and filling his tax coffers. In a substantial step towards that, land-based trade was established with the merchants of the Polish Kingdom, and more merchant ships were assigned to a majority of the sea-based trade routes.
THE KINGDOM OF SUSSEX ENGLAND
Edward II, Saxon King of England
DIPLOMACY: none
King Edward instructed his financiers to spend the royal treasury on improvements in Sussex, and the populous of London and the surrounding counties responded with love for him the English Kings had never seen before. He sent Admiral Waltrop out to sea on maneuvers, and British citizens never saw him again. Rumors from citizens travelling abroad placed him in Spain for a brief period, but the 30-ship fleet he was out to sea with landed at Cornwall in mid-summer 979 A.D..
UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
Asad Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel's Bane
DIPLOMACY:none
Treatise proclaimed by General Hafez to the Nobles of Catalonia and Navarre, and sent by his Highness Achmed, Kaliph al Cordoba, to Pope Michael V, and the leaders of Catholic Europe:
"It has been the intent of Cordovan Spain to exist in peace with their Catholic brothers. While it has been Cordovan intent, it appears that this has not been the Papal intent to let this peaceful coexistance remain. While Cordovan Spain was graciously providing military assistance to their
fellow Catholic Europeans, agents corrupted the mind of our brother Yasir, turning his mind away from the teachings of Allah to those of our Catholic neighbors, leading him to take up the sword against his Islamic brothers. This cannot be condoned. While Cordovan Spain regrets these actions, it must protect itself and its interests from further Papal interferance. Cordovan Spain therefore seeks to reclaim militarily what was once peacefully obtained by Cordovan Diplomats. Because of the nature of our brother Yasir's treachery, Cordovan Spain cannot allow this regions to remain subject to Papal influence. Cordovan Spain regrets that it must therefore bring these areas to the teachings of Allah. Cordovan Spain regrets these actions, taken solely for the purpose of protecting a larger Spain, and seeks to maintain its cordial relations with its Catholic neighbors."
While the military consolidation with the Moravid muslim forces, Kaliph Achmed was betrothed and wed to the most stunning woman he could find in all of Granada. Their union produced three children in short order, although he did stay at the capitol while sending Hafez, Abu, and his ally of Ghebel-al-Tarik off to teach Paco (Yasir) a lesson. The campaign went smoothly, with no real resistance in Catalonia of Navarre, but staying and converting the civil populations to Islam proved very time-consuming and arduous. Several thousand of the Catholics refused to acceed to the strict demands of Islam, refusing to pray at the ordained times, eating when eating was forbidden, and hiding or concealing earned monies to prevent them from being subject to the Zakat, or religious tax. Over 5,000 were sentenced to death, and of those, only a couple avoided their fate. A mass exodus began from the pacified regions west to hope for relief from Paco, and north through the Pyrenees mountain range.
KINGDOM OF SPAIN
Paco, "El Rojo", King of Spain
DIPLOMACY:none
El Rojo held his outnumbered forces in reserve, sacrificing two of his previously Catholic regions to the combined Moravid/Cordovan army.

Orouin I, King of Poland
DIPLOMACY:, Thuringia (fa), Bavaria (fa to Lombardy), Saxony (a to Denmark), Westphalia (t to Denmark), Franconia (nt), Galatia (fa), Austria (c), Bohemia (c)
The teen king Orouin recieved both financial and administrative assitance form Pope Michael, and used those bishops, all of his own leaders, and even a mercenary leader to run diplomatic envoys from one side of Europe to the other. Dane/Pole and Lombard/Pole leaders made offers and counter-offers in several Duchies of what was once Germany, but the Polish diplomats generally got the short end of those conflicting negotiations. The port fortress occupied by Byzantine forces was sold back to King Orouin. In more martial affairs, the slaving raids continued in what was occupied Prussia, but the rebel Russians and their followers were oddly absent.
VOSSTA BRODEET
Vostov Borislov, Prince of Prussia
DIPLOMACY: none
It became painfully clear that Vostov's blood relatives in Novgorod wished him ill, and King Orouin in Poland made no indications the slave raids were going to slow down in the Baltic States. Vostov decided to order a mass exodus of his followers, of which there were few, truthfully. Up the Dvina River, across to the Volga, and down the Volga to Saskiny and Sarigh-Shin they meandered, and settled in that coastal region and port. Far from home and familiar customs, they did their best to accustom themselves to the alien way of life among the steppes.
THE NOVGOROD KINGDOM
Vasili Borislov, "The White Fist"
DIPLOMACY: Muscovy (f)
Vasili rewarded his Muscovian ally with 5,000 fresh recruits, and sent him on slaving runs south of the Kingdom with General Fedirov. They met some resistance from th eprovincial militas on the Volga banks, but nothing serious, and losses were minor. Scouts were on th eprowl, having heard there just might be a Prussian army with a certain rebel Prince in the area, but the migrating army and populous of Prussia went unfound, and the two generals returned to Novgorod with slave trains in tow. A new port city, Parnu, was founded on the Baltic banks in Latvia.
PRINCIPATE OF KIEV RUS
Yaroslav, Grand Prince of Kiev
DIPLOMACY: none
Kiev orders were unreceived.

THE BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE
Leo, Roman Emperor of the East
DIPLOMACY: Phrygia (f), Paphlagonia (f), Thessaly (a)
The Emperor of the Oriental Romans spent that vast majority of his time in his palace, seeing to the mundane affairs of state, and to the affairs of his six children. A new port city, Colchis, was founded across the Marmara Deniz,i in Paphlagonia. The heathen Dobrujans were enlightened by Theodore Komnenos and associates, converting almost half of them to the One True Faith of Christ. Money came from the Pope to Leo, and on a lesser scale, from the Polish King Orouin. The Roman interdict of Novgorod trade was officially lifted, much to the delight of Greek fur and pelt merchants, and embassies were exchanged with the new Prince of Kiev.

Yusif ali Babar, "Zaban Nogreh"
DIPLOMACY:Malta (fa)
King Yusif Ali Babar listened with growing irritation when told of the civil strife being suffered by his neighbor (and relative by marriage), Cordoba. Muttering about broken Papal deals, and what a bad influence the Catholics are, Yusif declared "By Allah, We will send help to our cousins in Cordoba, to
put down this rebel Spanish upstart!" And he did, sending General Bashir and 14,000 infantry. Once there, Bashir joined with the three Cordovan general and trekked north to Catalonia and Navarre. Both regions were pounded in to submission and converted to Islam the hard way. Babar also ordered the construction of a port fortress and a port city around it in Algeria, named Al-Jazair.
THE FATAMID EMPIRE
Pesar el Madir, Guardian of the Holy Places
DIPLOMACY: none
Egyptian orders were absent.
THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Bakele Kersil
DIPLOMACY: Adwaghost (fa), Senegal (nt)
An official count was taken of the Herdsmen and their families, and Bakele was very pleased to learn he commanded the obedience of over 2 million subjects. He no longer accepted the excuses of his financial minister and had to actually have one executed for embezzlement. After that unpleasantness was complete, he was not surprised to find a marked increase in his allowable expenses. More bad news arrived shortly, when Bakele's most talented diplomat was gruesomely murdered in Senegal, while conducting normal diplomatic discussions with local leaders. There were no suspects.
THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO (HKK)
M'Toko, King of the Dark
DIPLOMACY: Akan (a), Chokwe (fa), Matadi (nt)
King M'Toko pushed for peaceful expansion of the Kingdom, and himself worked on the tribal leaders in Matadi. After almost two years of give and take there, he returned to Kinshasa to push for the expansion of his own immediate family, and the royal couple produced another son. Which was especially nice, since about six months later M'Toko's son and designated heir Abedi died of unnatural causes. The only other male child was titled the new heir, and at 16 years old, began to take up the duties of his late brother. These duties included, but weren't limited to, the supervision of Kinshasa's next expansion.
KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
Roakum, King of Benin
DIPLOMACY: none
Roakum balanced his expenses, using most for economic incentives, including a census of the nation, but took measures to protect his Kingdom by dedicating monies to the construction of regional forts throughout the land. The port cities Onitsha and K'kau expanded, as did the merchant fleets being docked there while not away swindling cold, hard cash from the neighboring nations' traders. The Benin King also began a family, but wasn't blessed with a male son yet.
THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Djenabo, "The Pitiless One", Omar Kanembu
DIPLOMACY: Gefara(f), Zerma (f)
The Tchad Omar visited most of the regions in the Kingdom (South of the Sahara, of course. Who'd be crazy enough to want to go that way, anyhow?), and gathered the regional garrisons sprinkled about the Kingdom. Completing his trip about the Kingdom, he remained in the capitol and ran the Kingdom from there. His two allies were conductiing exercises to keep the Kingdom safe from invasion, and hosting the Tchad diplomats. Terms for complete allegiance to Djenabo were worked out.

THE AZTEC EMPIRE:
Mezcal, Divine Ruler of Mexico
DIPLOMACY:Nahuatl (a)
Negotiations in Nahuatl continued, and Mezcal was rewarded with an ally to assit him in national defense. Good thing too, since keeping upstart rebels in line in Otomi was becoming increasingly difficult. The port city Texcoco expanded in Huexotla, and the Emperor decreed trade routes open to the Inkans south of Aztec lands.
THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Chontal, Priest-King of the Yucatan
DIPLOMACY: none
Mayan instructions weren't present. Yet again.
QUIRO MAPUCHE
Alyton, the Chosen
DIPLOMACY: none
Not satisfied with only six children, Prince Kniso continued to beget royal rugrats and by 980 A.D. had managed three more, one of which was another son. Alyton decided he could rule the Mapuche lands without his vizier, and gave Hfon a long, much appreciated vacation.
THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Johoi Cazxcitl, Emperor of the Heavens
DIPLOMACY: Chimu (f), Valdivia (f)
Paco assumed the title Johoi, and reciprocated the trade routes from the Aztec by arranging for Incan merchants to sail north. Kwuulu and Kasumi pressed the Chimu and Valdivian leaders for closer ties to the Empire, and continued Imperial growth, and achieved a measure of success, although Kwuulu didn't live long enough to return to the capitol Cuzco to report his results personally. Johoi's little brother arranged the nuptials of the Emperor with Chimu royalty, and the Empire was fortunate to acquire an heir from the union of Johoi and his new Empress.
ANASAZI
Arikara, Chief Executive of the High Desert
DIPLOMACY: none
Events in the High Desert Federation were rather uneventful. Oo-soo-mate was content with the size and shape of the nation, trade routes, and the general state of the nation. Several executive department chiefs were granted time to vacation form their normal duties, and only one chief "Crazy Chicken" was sent into the field in search of new items to pique the President's interest. The hardest working stiff in the land was He-le'-jah, the Vice President, whose job it was to make President Oo-soo-mate appear busy and intent on his work. Not too successfully, apparently, since the next election went to one of the challengers.
THE SONOMA KINGDOM
Laughing Fox, King of Sonoma
DIPLOMACY: none
Striking Wolf and his son Laughing Fox administered to the needs of the Kingdom, and let the rest of the national leaders relax for a few years. Both Ursa Majoris and Ursa Minoris expanded under Laughing Fox's supervision. In 979, Striking Wolf became too frail to continue his rule, and died eight months later. Laughing Fox had no real political enemies to defeat and ascended to the marble throne with little difficulty.
THE IROQUOIS NATION
Talon, Prime Chief of the Council
DIPLOMACY: none
Chief Talon was heartbroke when he heard of his elder son's death, and with a sad heart replaced Tunkanhuk with Soft Spear as heir to the nation. The Chitimacha region was the reciever of large sums of money and manpower, and the port city of Cameron was the end result. The international trade routes were based out of these new docks, and the old docks in Adena became home to merchants travelling from one Iroquis region to another. The caste structure was officially renounced, and family loyalty came to be the driving factor in most, if not all, political and financial entanglements.
The following information is most of what one would expect to see on a current mapset. National regions of nt or better status, Cities and City size types [1-5], and MCs. RR= Royal Road, PR= Postal Road, GW= Great Wall, and MO=Monolith. Cities follow commas following the host region. Homelands and Capitols are CAPITOLIZED. Religious Primacies show regions with religious sites, but do not show city size types, since those are already in national listings. Secret Empires are not shown, hence the name "Secret Empires". Hopefully, this will prevent some unintentional toe and turf stomping.
