Lords of the Earth, Campaign XX, Turn 008, A.D. 940

TURN 9 ORDERS DUE BACK BY Friday, 15 November, 1159pm to eddief6@ix.netcom.com

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS

Trade routes should show msp and number sof transports. The transports are bought, by the gov't and can be converted to NFP or warships or whatever, by just spending gold. Each one converted removes 2 msp from the route. The remaining msp are civilian vessels, and cannot be siezed or converted without consequences. Individual msp can only be bought, by building transports and converting them by assigning them to routes.

There is a Lords20 maillist at lords20-l@lists.pbmgames.com for general Lords 20 discussion topics and announcements. Email to it and put "subscribe {your email address}" in the body to get on it.

PROGRAM COMMENTS

The Intercity trade income isn't working for fa cities. If you have one or more of these, add them into your intercity trade income til I get this figured out. The tithe subroutine is working again. Everything else appears to be working normally. I am still using Stats3.1g. I have a copy of 3.1i, but the trade routes aren't showing up as they should. I'll stick to what I know works before switching to 3.1i. Also, I think the University calculator is screy. Investigating...

MAP NOTES

If you still need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.

RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS

Please read the rules addendum, on the Lords20 web site.

Thin Gov't Leniency no longer in effect, and DF immunity is cancelled for the world.

New rules, effective at the end of next turn

1. limits to number of leaders: 1xK, 1xH, (BL)xL, (BL)xA, (BL/2)xP, 1xM

2. Raided (R or SR) regions won't go "hostile" or "at war", their proclivity to fight back is measure by their resistance on a case by case basis.

3. Don't let your ruler travel more than his CCR from the capitol/homeland. He won't have a job if or when he returns.

4. Children will only be born when the HC order is used, King or Heir only. Others will be created retroactively only when needed for the sake of common sense.

Please, I'm begging, use the orders format in the lords version 5 rules. Tom was thinking good things when this format was made out, cuz it's easy to translate and run, while handwritten ones can be, but usually aren't. Some take many brainbytes just to figure out. Here's an example of one I got, with the names removed. This is one with only one conditional. One can see just how rapidly these can become Exedrin headaches.

2 H### [6x + pu 2x + 3x from trade + 9x +pu xx yr old brother
named Name] Place - Place -
Place [dp + 25 + marry Name to princess to
aid dp + SD][pu Place x's, x's, etc. if possible] - Place
- Place

Here's how I wished it (and many others) would have looked (see p. 52)

#2 H### Heir's Name start troops/end troops
From: Place (+2x, 3x from trade, 9x, and xx yr old brother named Name)
Via: Place
Via: Place
Via: Place [DP+25], intel op SD, (+x and +x if goes friendly)
Via: Place
To: Place

Finally, please don't submit "standing" orders. Just include them in each orders form, and I can much more easily take care of these orders, or at least have no excuse for forgetting to run them.

TROOP CONVERSIONS

Infantry (500 men = 1 point), Cavalry (500 men = 1 point), Siege Engineers (500 men = 1 point), Warships (5 ships = 1 point), Transports (5 ships = 1 point)

MERC AQRS C01 S01 I03 W03
MERC LEADERS Kai Yamahiro M868

UNITED STATES OF ASIA (JIHPEN)
Tobri Anwa, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY: Nigata (a), Koguryo(a), Akita (ne), Yamaguchi (t)
Tobri Anwa stayed in Tokyo, and supervised the smooth running of things there, while his leaders were out speaking with the regional leaders, both on and off the islands. Things were going nice and smooth, when disaster struck! A huge Prehistoric creature, god it must have been over 500 feet tall, tromped out of the sea and levelled Tokyo! The entire executive and legislative branches were incinerated by its breath, while trying to negogiate with the beast, and it quickly took on the status of a god-creature. They call it Godzilla-San. Well, ok, you're right, I'm just kidding. Nothing bad happened, I'm just having a little late night fun boosting your blood pressure a bit, Rick.

THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Song, God-Emperor of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Chiennan (a), Kweichou (c), Jiangxi (ea)
The Chinese continued preparations for possible invasion from the south. Qian Lao devoted more time to the actual running of the kingdom, and the tax rate improved correspondingly.

THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Zhu Wen the Liberator, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: Liao'tung (nt), Kiangsu (f), Lu'an (f), Shangtung (fa)
Zhu Wen sat and ruled the kingdom, with his son by his side. More dough was sent to the university, and the diplomats were about the kingdom.

THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Wang Kso, The One-Eyed Dragon
DIPLOMACY: Huang (a), Shansi (fa)
Wang did a little of the diplomacy thing, with some regions along the great wall, and not a lot else.

THE HONG KONG TRADERS
Xian Lao, King of Hong Kong
DIPLOMACY: Lingtung (a)
Xian Wu made defenses ready, fearing an invasion from the south. Which never materialized. What did materialize was a shipment of gold off to the Dalai Lama, to help in the construction of abbies. Xain Wu body perished, leaving his soul to find a new body in it's search for true enighternment. His son Xian Lao assumed the reins of power without much argument from anyone.

THE INCREDIBLY PEACEFUL CELESTIAL KINGDOM OF THE JADE BUDDHA
Kuo Mojo, 3rd Incarnation of the Blessed Jade Buddha, Light on the Path to Nirvanah, Illuminator of the Human Soul, Thinker of Deep Thoughts, Mayor of Shangri-La
DIPLOMACY: none
Kuo Mojo meditated. So did all the other Bhuddist monks. Except for the ones building monasteries off in China and East India. A wagon load of gold jewelry arrived from Hong Kong.

THE EMPIRE OF CHAMPA
Palpatyn, Emperor Viet
DIPLOMACY:Yeah, right...
The dark Emperor Palpatyn grew weary of the Avans, who ignored the massive Champan imperial Army camped outside the capital city. Finally, the Emperor had had enough. He nodded to the royal guard. With a casual wave of the hand, the Emperor pointed in the direction of the Avan kingdom.

"Eliminate them," was all he needed to say.

With a grim nod, Lord Angur spun on his heel and clanked out of the throne room. The Emperor was to be obeyed, at all costs, as the Burmese would soon discover. While the troops were being assembled, Palpatyn hosted a royal celebration of the riches which would surely soon be arriving from Burma, had a stroke and died, dancing with the queen. Some called it an omen. His heir, Palpatyn II, simply pondered life's irritating habit of thrusting unwanted situations on him. The plan was still on. Passing through Pegu with his 108,000 nationals and 11,000 mercs, Lord Angur and the Champan mass met minor resistance from some field forts, and suffered small losses enroute to the Avan capitol. There they found some pretty impressive walls, and if the scouts were to be believed, those walls housed nearly as many troops as Lord Angur had. As if it mattered to him. The Emperor was to be obeyed...

THE UNITED MONARCHY OF THE AVANS
Narathu II, The Celestial, Virtuous, and Benignant King Narathu Hsiapaw II, Monarch of all Burmese People, Exarch of Arakan, Munificent Potentate of Pegu, Just Paragon to Thaton, Beloved Leader of Sagaing, and Dispenser of all Avan Goodness and Benevolence
DIPLOMACY: none
Narathu saw the an invasion in his future, and convinced the Palas Emperor to defend him against the Champan Emperor. Life is pretty damn unfair, he thought. Why did he have to get stuck between these two, anyway? So he put a spear in just about everybody's hands that he could, including the few government officials who didn't quit and leave, for not being able to feed their families with a 100% pay cut.
So Narathu ended up with about 50,000 troops, and gave them to the command of his son, while the king took some 10,000 cavalry to Pegu in an attempt to slow down the Champans long enough for expected assistance to arrive from Palas. The Pegu skirmishes slowed the army only minutely, but the Palas army arrived in time anyway. Then Narathu's Palas ally died in his sleep. Some people have all the luck.
The Champan army and Lord Angur arrived and promptly pacified the Avan homeland before setting up their siege on the capitol. The first siege on Pagan lasted 8 days, and saw heavy casualties on both sides. The Avans took the worst of it though, since the young Narathu II took 4 arrows high on the eastern wall, and died asking for his father. Narathu didn't arrive in time to see his son perish, and swore to kill every last Champan. And it looked liked he was just about to get his chance, because Lord Angur tired of waiting for the loot which was rightfully his (in his own mind, anyway), and reverted to tried and battle-proven assault technique.
"Everybody, over the walls." he said, grimly. He was a grim guy.
Since he spoke with the Emperor's voice, and the Emperor must be obeyed at all costs, the Champans set to building ladders by the thousands. The assualt concentrated on the south wall, where they might open the city gates if they got over the top. They didn't. The assault proved disastrous for the Champans, and they died by the thousands. The piles of bodies grew, and Lord Angur realized his tactical error. He ordered a retreat, grimly, and returned to Khemer in disgrace with less than 20% of his original army.
It was a strategic victory for the Avans, by their survival, but with effectively no government except the person of the king, all but three regions in the kingdom declared their independence.

THE JAVAN FEDERATION
Koer Singh, President Sirivjavan
DIPLOMACY:Luzon (f), Hainan (ea)
Koer began his term in office by sending instructions to his leaders overseas, guiding them to convert the locals to Bhuddism. The Hainan nobility already was, and the Phillipine pagans took to it readily enough. Which the Javan leader found much to his liking. Having his head shrunk was not high on his lifelong wish list. Control in Mon was released and granted independence, although expected compensations for such an action never materialized.

THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Wabodon Soba, Son of Sea and Sky
DIPLOMACY: none
The waves lapped on the shores, the sun rose..., and set. 1,824 times. Not much else happened.

THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Lamma, Chief He'e Nalu, "Leader of the Pack"
DIPLOMACY: none
Yamma Lamma and his advisors paddled over to Toowomba to convince them to ally themselves the He'e Nalu, and they did. Taree was the recipient of some improvements, and Yamma Lamma's son became old enough to swim with the big fishes.

EMPIRE OF THE LOWER GANGES
Karadi Singham, Keeneh, Imperial Regent for Narayanapala III, Guardian of the Ganges
DIPLOMACY: none
Narayanapala II coalesced nearly all of his military power and placed under the command of his daughter's husband, the Prince of Nadavaria. His orders were to assist the Avan king against an expected invasion of Burma. Not thrilled with the idea of defending Buddhists from Hindi, he went grudgingly. Maybe it was his old bones. Probably it was his old bones, because 2 months after he arrived in Pagan and set up his command post, he died in his sleep. His timing could have been a lot better. Leaderless except for their heathen Buddhist hosts, a full third of them deserted. The Avans wanted to punish them as cowards, but doing so would have cost them nearly 25,000 defenders and almost surely meant the death of everyone at the hands of the Champans.

THE INDUS VALLEY KINGDOM
Mahendrapala, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus
DIPLOMACY: Carmania (t), Punjab (nt), Sukkur (nt)
The Mansurashah proclaimed indepence from the heretic Sunni Imam, for himself, his kingdom, and and for all true (read Shi'ite) Muslims. Two of his children died, but fortunately, the Shah's only son was not one of them. His son Mushatq became old enough to govern the kingdom.

THE RAJPUT KINGDOM OF INDIA
Krisnaraja III, Lord of the River, Life-Giver
DIPLOMACY: none
Krisnaraja's messages to his leaders never arrived, and he died childless early in 938. The power struggle was brief, the end of which saw one of Krisnaraja's vassals claim the throne. Uttar Pradesh revolted.

THE CHOLA MANDALAM
Aditya, Mandala Chola
DIPLOMACY: none
Nothing happened in the south of India. Really.

IMAM MUSLIM
Taffakore Vaght, Siadat Kuran
DIPLOMACY: none
The Imam instructions arrived in a totally unreadable format.

THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Ali, Kaliphat Rasul Allah
DIPLOMACY: Ahvaz (f), Fars (ea), Aleppo (ea),Cilicia (t),Media (t) Kuwait (fa)
Ali picked up some troops laying about without any real commander, and returned to the capitol to rule as a wise Caliph should. His leaders did his talking for him, with a fair measure of success. Ali's eldest son became old enough to act and speak with authority both at home and in the surrounding regions. Trade wagons began to flow to and from Cairo, and the city Raja grew.

THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Qara Bachkam, Kophatshah
DIPLOMACY:Khurasan (fa), Dasht'Kavir (nt), Transoxania (t)
The Kophatshah was in Khurasan and Dasht'Kavir, attempting to get them more comitted to the kingdom. He meager success in Dasht'Kavir was balanced by his errors in judgement and subsequent degrading of his status in Khurasan. Samarkhand expanded as more people flocked to that thriving metropolis.

PRINCIPATE OF KIEV RUS
Sibirsk, Knyaz and Grand Prince of Kiev
DIPLOMACY: none
Sibirsk continued his home improvement bent. And ruled as a benevolent, wise, and fair ruler should. He took a new title, "Grand Prince of Kiev".

THE POLISH KINGDOM
Piast I, Palota Polski
DIPLOMACY: Pomern (f), Saxony (t), Silesia (fa), Slovakia (un to Germania), Galacia (nt)
Piast got really old, but didn't wanna die just yet. He moved his slaves about, ordered them to work, and went about his lecherous ways with the nubile maids running about the castle. Hide and seek goes just about 24 hours a day. On days he can't find any of them, he orders a few dozen more to be hired. He sent Jobe off to the eastern reaches, way, way east, to find more slave labor.

THE NOVGOROD KINGDOM
Vasili Borislov
DIPLOMACY: Rzhev (t), Smolensk (a), Kirivitch (ne), Kostrama(c), Suzdal (nt)
Vasili went far into the field in search of fresh meat for his slave pens. He found it on the bannks of the Volga., but not without a fight. All three regions he raided put up resistance, and whittled his army considerably. His Kirivitch ally was about as well, convincing to Kostramans and Suzdali to join the kingdom, in name at least. He had left his own army in Kirivitch, where it stood idly whilst the Pole army barreled through on its way to the newly diplomacized regions for their own slave markets. The newly diplomacized regions were very interested in the Novgorod king putting an end to the incessant Pole raids.

THE BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE
Leo VI, the Wise, Roman Emperor of the East, "Hammer of the Serbs"
DIPLOMACY: Phrygia (nt), Isauria (nt), Rhodes (nt), Lydia, (f), Attica (nt), Morea (nt)
Leo tired of attempting to convince the Thessalians to join his empire peacefully, and decided to smack the snot outta them. This he did, with the assistance of his Macedonian ally. Following the thumping there, the two moved on to request the alliance of the Atticans and Moreans. The implied alternative was to be thumped, but both regional leaders agreed to join the empire as non-tributary vassal states, as did several other regions.

THE SAXON KINGDOM OF SUSSEX
Merriden I, Saxon King of England
DIPLOMACY: none
Saxon orders were not received.

THE REPUBLIC OF WEST FRANCIA
Luc Levelle, President d' Republique Francois
DIPLOMACY: Provence (f), Normandy (a)
The French diplomats were out in force again, with fair effect. Vermaindois was the happy recipient of some nice improvements in the local area, and the ally there gave his authority over to Paris. Trade was opened with the Papacy and with a few Islamic nations. The president made a trip around the country, picking up local garrisons to form a United Armie, and died a year later. Vice President Levelle was sworn in, and he found a strong administrator to appoint to the vice-presidency in his place, one Firmin Ranier. This turned out to be wise move, though Mr. Levelle never realized it. The actually running of the government was run by Mr Ranier, since President Levelle was pretty much sans cervelle.

THE KINGDOM OF GERMANIA
Ludwig III, Rex Germanicus
DIPLOMACY: none
Ludwig's son and heir Wilhelm sank into the swamp, but he had another, Eric. Two years later, Ludwig's new heir Eric collapsed, fell over, and sank into the swamp, but he had another, Norstraf. Ludwig's new heir Norstraf developed a severe case of Morastphobie. Polish diplomats convinced the claimed region of Slovakia to declare its independence from, well, everybody.

THE DANISH KINGDOM
Guthrum, Rex Danmark
DIPLOMACY: Agder (t)
Githrum shuffled some merchant vessels around the different routes, and ran his kingdom from the capitol.

THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Giovanni d' Orsini, Rex Sognari
DIPLOMACY: Baelerics (un)
Giovanni had had enough of the sea air, and ordered his scribes and servants to pick up his belongings and those of the government, and move them to Lombardy proper. The added benefit was to lessen the difficulty of trade travelling to the north of Europe. While this was going on, his diplomats were in the Baelerics, where they managed to convince the local leaders to not alliege themselves to the Cordovan Caliph.

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
John X, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Papal States, and Servant of the Servants of God
DIPLOMACY:none
John went north to consolidate the ties between the abbies and monasteries in Germany and France. Bishops Hector and Christopher did the same, and a new trade route was established to the French Republic with some token merchant vessels from the Cordovan routes.

THE NAPOLI KINGDOM
Enrico I, King of Naples
DIPLOMACY: Sicily (c), Cyprus (ne), Apulia (t)
Enrico's diplomatic gestures were, overall, very ineffective. His overtures in Sicily actually decreased his influence there. Those Sicillians can be so ungrateful. I mean, after all Enrico has done for them, you'd think... Enrico pondered the intelligence of pacifying them, again. Enrico also expected a Bishop to come down from Rome and follow his orders, but it never happened, although a comany of scribes arrived from Rome.

UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
Asad Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel's Bane
DIPLOMACY: Gebel-al-Tarik (a), Estremadura (a), Talavera (a), Valencia (t), Baelerics (un)
The Abdullah passed into the next world, leaving his eldest son to assume the responsibilities of the realm. His diplomats were about the peninsula, acquiring more allies at the time. Abdullah's ally in New Castille decided not to renew his alliance with the new Caliph, and the Salamancan ally died two months after Abdullah. His replacement withheld even tribute from the new Caliph. The diplomats in Baelerics found the locals difficult to persuade, to find out laterit was mostly because they were negotiating with the Lombards at the same time.

AFRIQA
MERC TROOPS 6MC, 21MI, 11MS, 9MW, 6MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W02
MERC LEADERS: none

THE CALIPHATE AL MORAVID
Muhammet, "Zaban Nogreh"
DIPLOMACY: Zirid (ea)
Yayha felt the icy touch of death around the corner, and tried to have more sons to replace the ones he lost to the cruel hands of fate. His aged body refused to yield the stuff of life for his wife (or for his mistresses, despite their very creative attempts). He was no fool, Yahya, so he appointed his leader Muhammet, also called "Zaban Nogreh" (He with the tongue of silver), as his successor. With Yayha's blessing, Muhammet's succession to the Caliph's power was uneventful. His first act was to have trade ships built and sent to the Christian ports on the north shores of the Beynol Arzan.

THE FATAMID EMPIRE
Farouk Hussayn, Imam Ubaydullah al Mahdi
DIPLOMACY: Jordan (f), Faiyum (a), Petra (ne), Madina (c)
The Emperor sent his diplomats out as in past years, and they had success in places. The most notable instance of not having success was in Madina. Farouk's diplomat Ali Ben Absala claimed the region of Madina and the holy city Mecca for the Fatamid Emperor, even though the locals made no such agreement.

THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Minkah Kersil
DIPLOMACY: Takrur (f)
Minka stayed put in the capitol, ruling his world, while his diplmats concentrated far to the west. The Takuri were very hospitable hosts, and rapidly agreed to fully join with Minkah when he built them a shiny new port city. Ziguinchur, in Takrur. The king's Segu ally passed away, but his successor reaffirmed his alliance with the herdsmen.

THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO (HKK)
M'Bundu, King of the Dark
DIPLOMACY: Matadi (c), Cuango (h), Lui (un)
The King of the Dark became a proud papa, before heading out to claim control of the Matadi tribes. while he was doing this, he sent Gneral Zer out to make apologies to the Lui, and woo the Cuango tribes enroute. Which was just where he screwed up. Reports vary from one to the next, but the general consensus was that general Zer stepped in a big pile of farm animal excrement. No big deal, he thought, an accident, coulda happened to anybody, even a general. The problem arose when he tracked it into the hut of the Cuango chief, and wiped it off on the rug in front of the chiefs's throne. General Zer just didn't understand why he was unliked so strongly, but continued to Lui where he successfully appealed the locals to forgive his earlier buffoonery.

KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
Bongorwa, King of Benin
DIPLOMACY: Yoruba (f)
The wise king remained in Benin, meting out justice and settling disputes between his people. He also wanted to outlaw slavery, but his advisors convinced him doing so would probably ignite a civil war. His chief diplomat was in Yoruba for 5 years arranging a royal wedding to the king's daughter, P'tina. The accompanying diplomacy went well. At the ripe old age of 63, King N'wanko abdicated his throne to his son Bongorwa.

THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Tunka Vorta, Omar Kanembu
DIPLOMACY: none
Tunka Vorta was strangely silent, again.

THE PAINTED WOLF TRIBES (ZIMBABWE)
Fulacha Follak't, Bloodspear
DIPLOMACY: Karanga (ne)
The Bloodspear set just about all of his leaders on business matters relating to running the kingdom, and nearly nothing else. The taxes kept flowing in, so it must have been the right thing to do. Then he died, and it went to h***. Really. The Karangan ally refused to ally himself with Kacho, the proclaimed king, who Kacho had four brothers who would have liked to be king too. So while Kacho was in Karanga, his ally had him killed in his sleep, and gave his home over to one of Kacho's brothers, Zindal. Matopos, Gorongo, Swazi all revolted.

KARA NGAWA
Zindal Follak't
DIPLOMACY: none
Zindal controls Karanga, Phalaborwa, and Banhine. The nation is open for a player. grant@metier.demon.co.uk has first crack at it.

THE AZTEC EMPIRE:
Calliacatl, Divine Ruler of Mexico
DIPLOMACY: Totonac (f), Otomi (a)
The God-Emperor of the Aztecs blessed the Totonacs with his presence and they were awed. Maybe it was the brand new port city Tlalixcoyan that seemed to spring up overnight, apparently solely because Calliactl ordered it. His son became of age and graduated the Telpuchcalli ("House of Youth"). He passed his rites of manhood by sacrificing 100 virgins to Tonatiuh, and set up the Quetzalcoatl University in the capitol city Mitla.

THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Itzam Mo, Priest-King of the Yucatan
DIPLOMACY:Kekchi (ne), Huave (fa)
Itzam Mo sent his diplomats out and he went to Kekchi to get them more closely tied to him. Rope would have been more effective than his words. His diplomats had better success in Huave, but Yucatec couldn't get more friendly than it already was. The capitol and homeland were improved. Itzam ally in Quiche died, and his replacement there declared his region independent from the Mayans.

QUIRO MAPUCHE
Mali, the Chosen
DIPLOMACY: none
A Wise Woman knowledgable in the birthing process told the queen it would be physically impossible for her majesty to bear the king any more children. The king was compassionate to his wife's misfortune and accepted the fact he would have no more children. He continued to rule from the capitol and dote on his children. He named his oldest son, Aeden, as heir.

THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Telcio, Emperor of the Heavens
DIPLOMACY: Moche (ne), Moquequa (a), Uru(nt), Wairajikia (nt)
Telcio ordered improvements to the Incan cities, and it was made so. He had more children, and his heir Ptontic took a wife from the local gentry and also started a family.

ANASAZI
Oraibi Wupatki, Chief Executive of the High Desert
DIPLOMACY: Tiwa (f)
Oraibi began this term by offering free land to settlers to move east. And they went, to Mescalero that is, to open trade relations with the Iroqouis who were unhappily also far from their homes.

THE SONOMA KINGDOM
Rafael, King of Sonoma
DIPLOMACY: Serrano (t)
The Sonoma nobility concentrated on the regions they already controlled, and ensured an accurate measure was taken of the people and of the tax revenues. The crown prince Gabriel married a Serrano bride, in high fashion. The constitution of the kingdom didn't allow for significant growth, and Rafael considered burning the whole document.

THE IROQUOIS NATION
Uphand Fox, Prime Chief of the Council
DIPLOMACY: none
Uphand Fox was getting really old, and his son decided if he didn't do something soon, he wouldn't have any time as ruler for himself. So he sent his father away with some of his younger advisors to explore the seas around his world, and assumed the title of Emperor, discarding the pretense of sharing power with the Council. The other chiefs in the council knew all along they were without real authority, so although they disliked the move, there was nothing they could do.
