TURN 8 ORDERS DUE BACK BY Friday, 1 November, 1159pm to eddief6@ix.netcom.com
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS
Lords 20 Rules addendum is on the web page. Check it out.
Nothing changed in the addendum this turn.
Please don't submit "standing" orders. Just include them in each orders form, and I can much more easily take care of these orders.
Regarding heirs and children: Keeping track of a king's heirs isn't too difficult, but there's no real place for Heir's children, Prince's children, and Lieutenants' children. I can keep track of heir's children by manually aging them in the players' notes, but tracking other leaders' children is a prospective snowball which I'm not prepared to stand in front of. So I plan on tracking rulers' children in the heirs section, and heirs' children in the player notes section. I'll make other children in hindsight if they ever become necessary for the sake of common sense. There is some discussion regarding livestock points, hunting, herding, etc... I will not be implementing any of these anytime soon in Lords XX. It's complicated enough for me already.
There is a Lords20 maillist at lords20-l@lists.pbmgames.com for general Lords 20 discussion topics and announcements. Email to it and put "subscribe {your email address}" in the body to get on it.
PROGRAM COMMENTS
The Intercity trade income isn't working for fa cities. If you have one or more of these, add them into your intercity trade income til I get this figured out. The tithe subroutine is working again. Everything else appears to be working normally. I am still using Stats3.1g. I have a copy of 3.1i, but the trade routes aren't showing up as they should. I'll stick to what I know works before switching to 3.1i.
I found out the RDMS I want for lords is only about 185$ with the student "academic discount", and CD6 is also way cheap, 180$, from university bookstores. Looks like I'll have to take a class again so I can afford these cool progs.
MAP NOTES
I found out that CorelDraw6 is the way to go for the maps I want to put on the web. Allow up to some ungodly sized pictures (1800" x 1800"). I'll need to get win95 up on my system to run this beast. The plan is to cut and paste all the other coreldraw maps into one big one, fix all the data (lack of) overlap problems, and recut the maps. Or make the world file one big happy gif. This second option probably won't happen, since it probably would present considerable difficulty for players not running with 32 MB or more. That group of people would include this GM.
If you still need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.
RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS
Please read the rules addendum
Thin Gov't Leniency no longer in effect, and DF immunity is cancelled for the world.

MERC TROOPS12MC, 11MI,10MS, 6MW, 8MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I03 W02
MERC LEADERS none
UNITED STATES OF ASIA (JIHPEN)
Tobri Anwa, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY: Saga (f), Nigata (fa), Kagoshima (a), Yamaguchi (nt)
A new presidential team was elected into office. Tobri Anwa was the President, and his Vice President was one Surubaya Ken. Tobi stayed in the capitol and ran things from there, while the Vice President went to the Korean mainland to oversea the rebuilding of a new Nipponese city on the ruins of the ex-Korean capitol. He was at a state dinner where he was to announce Japanese diplomatic intentions, but choked on a poultry bone. His remains were returned to the island federation where they laid in state for about 2 days, until the smell became overpowering. Elsewhere, other diplomatic overtures met with fair success, and the internal merchant fleet was about doubled in size.
THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Song, God-Emperor of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Anhui (f), Hunan (f), Jiangxi (ne), Szechwan (f)
Qian Qui had big plans for these coming few years, but he didn't live long enough to see them come to fruition. His heir Quian Song was very effective (with other diplomats to assist) in consolidating the Chinese lands under his control. A respectable defense force was set up, and some funds were put aboard ships to the Hong Kong Traders.
THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Zhu Wen the Liberator, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: Bao'Ding (a), Lu'an (ea), Shangtung (nt)
Zhu Wen had his diplomats out visiting his neighbors, but spent most all of his time in the capitol. Except for his trips to the beach, of course. I mean, a guy's gotta get a good tan, even if he is the emperor. How else are the chicks gonna dig him? That "wielding supreme executive authority" bit (and being the richest guy in the region) only impresses 'em up to a point, and then you just hafta look good, or you're outta there. He also arranged to marry off a couple of his daughters in his spare time. His heir Wo Hu Lei kept busy making a family of his own.
THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Wang Kso, The One-Eyed Dragon
DIPLOMACY: Houma (f), Huang (ea), Ordos (nt), Shansi (nt)
Wang sent his chief diplomat about the land consolidating the edges of the kingdom. He also sent off some gold to the Hong Kong traders.
THE HONG KONG TRADERS
Xian Wu, King of Hong Kong
DIPLOMACY: Lingsi (f), Fujian (a), Lingtung (t)
Xian Wu remained in Hong Kong, overseeing the growth of the nation. His leaders were about, though, with pretty good effect on neighboring regions. Piles of food stores grew high, and regional improvements were the order of the day. Xian happily took the donations of the other Chinese nations.
THE INCREDIBLY PEACEFUL CELESTIAL KINGDOM OF THE JADE BUDDHA
Kuo Mojo, 3rd Incarnation of the Blessed Jade Buddha, Light on the Path to Nirvanah, Illuminator
of the Human Soul, Thinker of Deep Thoughts, Mayor of Shangri-La
DIPLOMACY: none
Kuo Mojo and his Grand Abbots came down from their mountain retreat to set up some centers of learning, throughout China and southeast Asia.

MERC TROOPS 10MC, 10MI, 2MS, 16MW, 5MT

THE UNITED MONARCHY OF THE AVANS
Narathu Hsiapaw, The Celestial, Virtuous, and Benignant King Narathu Hsiapaw, Monarch of
all Burmese People, Exarch of Arakan, Munificent Potentate of Pegu, Just Paragon to Thaton, Beloved Leader of Sagaing, and Dispenser of all Avan Goodness and Benevolence
DIPLOMACY: Padishan (nt), Sagiang (t)
Narathu acquired a few replacements for the many slaves who poured their sweat and lives in the improvement of his homeland. He improved his control in a couple regions on his return home, but was saddened to hear of the demise of his Thaton ally. Bereft of their leader, the region stopped sending tribute to the Avans. Narathu II and his little brother Paratha both became of age, Junior being named heir to the throne, and Parathu promoted to a prince of the realm.
THE JAVAN FEDERATION
Koer Singh, President Sirivjavan
DIPLOMACY:Luzon (f), Hainan (ea)
Koer Singh was reelected for another term, despite his (and his vice president's) advanced age. Expanding the capitol and the university were again high on his agenda.
THE EMPIRE OF CHAMPA
Palpatyn, Emperor Viet
DIPLOMACY: Cochin (f)
Palpatyn used his ill-gotten gains from the Palas expedition to builds some defensive fortifications and footmen, while sending his now seasoned troops to the Bhuddist region north of Khemer. Having had a state of war between them, Palptyn ordered them pacified, and then converted to Hinduism to prevent any religious uprisings. Prince Darh was rousted from his favorite watering holes in Angor to get the Cochin to recognize Palpatyn as their supreme ruler. They did.
THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Wabodon Soba, Son of Sea and Sky
DIPLOMACY: Moluccas (ne)
It was fortunate that Wabodon had a chance to try on his new role as royal heir, since Palau died at the ripe old age of 62. His remains were set adrift to meet his ancestors at Kailani, the place where mother sea and father sky join.
THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Lamma, Chief He'e Nalu, "Leader of the Pack"
DIPLOMACY: none
Yamma Lamma ordered some improvements in the capitol, and picked up the sport of his fathers. Of his father, mostly, until Yamma Yamma had that alcohol-related incident. What he ended up doing was having all his advisors learn to surf as well, although they all went to great effort not to surf better than their leader.
INDIA AND MIDDLE EAST

MERC AQRS C01 S02 I02 W01
MERC LEADERS Mohmand Charon M788
EMPIRE OF THE LOWER GANGES
Narayanapala II, Keeneh, His Imperial Majesty, Guardian of the Ganges
DIPLOMACY: Assam(f), Gtsang(f), Kalinga (f)
The new king set about getting his nation back together, and went significantly into debt to do so. Two armies were raised in the homeland, Tamralpiti was expanded, and the capitol was rebuilt. Narayanpala got two children from his new Avan wife, and managed to get some of his allies to commit fully to the Empire.
THE INDUS VALLEY KINGDOM
Mahendrapala, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus
DIPLOMACY: Carmania (fa), Sahis (c)
Manhendrapala was crushed by the news from Ghazni, his eldest son had perished with most of his entourage enroute to a diplomatic meeting there. The crocodile poulation had been unusually high, but Mahendrapala made use of the tragedy by declaring war on the prehistoric species. Inside of three years, one was hard pressed to see a single reptilian swimmer along the entire length of the Indus. The Mansurashah tried to console himself with the fact he had another much younger son, but four decades of hopes, dreams, and political and royal training still lay on the bottom of the River.
THE RAJPUT KINGDOM OF INDIA
Krisnaraja III, Lord of the River, Life-Giver
DIPLOMACY: Vatsa (ea), Gujerat (nt)
Krisnaraja II died just after beginning negotiations with the Gujerat leaders, in an attempt to extend trade to the Indus Valley Kingdom. The heir, Krisnaraja III, was in the capitol supervisor a count of all the people in the land when he heard the news, and he went straight to Gujerat to finish his father's goals there. He also dropped a sizable chunk of dough in the university coffers.
THE CHOLA MANDALAM
Aditya, Mandala Chola
DIPLOMACY: none
The Mandala King ruled his now stabliized kingdom, and he had all of his leaders administering to the needs of his people.
IMAM MUSLIM
Taffakore Vaght, Siadat Kuran
DIPLOMACY: none
Looks like we finally got a player for this one. Darin Byrne will probably be taking on this position.
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Ali, Kaliphat Rasul Allah
DIPLOMACY: Mosul (f), Abadan (f), Ahvaz (a), Aleppo (t),Cilicia (nt), Carhae (ea), Kuwait (nt)
Ali's construction engineers finished the grand design he had for his capitol, creating a combination of symmetry and awesome size. The temple towers stretched as far as Ali could see from his palace, Kesh Ghashr, had he actually been there. He was in neighboring Mosul province, while his leaders continued to consolidate the Kaliph's authority in other outlying provinces.
THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Qara Bachkam, Kophatshah
DIPLOMACY:Khurasan (t), Dasht'Kavir (c), Transoxania (nt)
The Kophatshah reacquired some previously release lands through diplomacy and some very pretty speeches. The leaders of Khurasan didn't understand all of the speech Qara read them, but to be fair, their minds might have been precoccupied with the army of horsemen Qara brought with him. Lets just say it was easily enough to paste the entire region a couple... dozen times. Qara's diplomats were in other regions, also reading very nice speeches, but they didn't carry quite the weight Qara did. They wouldn't have time to get any speech lessons though, because they both died late in 934., to be replaced by new leaders. Qara took the title "Seed of Islam", and his own seed Sebuktigin was officially named heir to the Shah, even though he was much too young to carry any authority.
EAST EUROPE
MERC TROOPS 13MC, 7MI, 9MS, 16MW, 11MT
MERC AQRS C03 S01 I01 W01
MERC LEADERS none
PRINCIPATE OF KIEV RUS
Sibirsk, Knyaz Kiev
DIPLOMACY: none
Sibirsk kept his eyes and ears open for any changes in the lay of the land. Alas, there were none.
THE POLISH KINGDOM
Piast I, Palota Polski
DIPLOMACY:Pomern (a), Lausatia (f), Saxony (ne)
The Polota used the slaves he had in the construction of a fortress in Meissen and improvements in the homeland. His heir was in the east, rounding up fresh slaves to replace the one who burned out on the hard labor. Diplomaatic efforts were met with some success, and Piast "the Wrinkled" got a new ally.
THE NOVGOROD KINGDOM
Vasili Borislov
DIPLOMACY: Smolensk (t), Kirivitch (a), Muscovy (c), Suzdal (ne)
Vasili went way east to get more slaves and watched the Polish army do the same. His heir Komarrof died while gaining an ally for the kingdom.
THE BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE
Leo VI, the Wise, Roman Emperor of the East, "Hammer of the Serbs"
DIPLOMACY: Bithnia (f), Thrace (f), Thessaly (ne), Macedon (a)
Leo pressed the king of Bithnia to join the greek empire, and childless, he finally aquiesced. He gained a new, oddly latin title, "Dux Graecia", and relaxed in his mostly powerless but comfortable position in the empire. A brief attempt to convince the Thessalians to give tribute wasn't successful, so Leo's diplomats tried their hands in Macedonia, to better effect. Leo's second son Berengar was promoted to a general's position in the imperial cavalry.
WEST EUROPE
MERC TROOPS18MC, 9MI, 6MS, 1MW, 4MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W03
MERC LEADERS: Gillett Ethere M756
THE SAXON KINGDOM OF SUSSEX
Merriden I, Saxon King of England
DIPLOMACY: none
Edward had his artisans design a new city for him, in the conquered land of Mercia, called it Nottingham. He figured his vanquished foes there would maybe like him better if he showed some concern for their lives' enrichment. He was so confident, he used almost half of the local garrison in the new city's construction. In hindsight, this could be labelled a significant error in judgement, since the ensuing local uprising destroyed the rest of the garrison before declaring independence from the Saxon Kingdom. While planning how to most easily retake what he considered rightfully his, Edward suffered a stroke, and was relaced on the throne by his newly named heir, eldest child, and only son Merriden.
THE REPUBLIC OF WEST FRANCIA
Garnier Beaumont, President d' Republique Francois
DIPLOMACY: Provence (f), Normandy (a)
Recent years saw the death of both the president and the vice president after his taking the presidential oath. Diplomatic missions were interrupted, and many footmen were employed in the improvement of Vermandois. A new port city, Monaco, was founded in Provence.
THE KINGDOM OF GERMANIA
Ludwig III, Rex Germanicus
DIPLOMACY: Alsace (f), Swabia (f)
Ludwig ordered more improvements throughout the kingdom, but this time let his son Wilhelm do the kingdom-running bit from Franconia. Wilhelm managed to have some time with the spousal unit despite his zealous dedication to his new role as ruler for his dad. Ludwig figured he should personally attend to his allies in Alsace and Swabia, and arranged marriages for both his second and youngest sons.
THE DANISH KINGDOM
Guthrum, Rex Danmark
DIPLOMACY: Friesland (f)
Guthrum's big plans these years was to expand trade towards the British Isles, and marry off another one of his sons. The construction of a new port city on the Channel, Karnkorb worked out nicely, but his fourth son Guthrum "Jungere" died of a coughing fever on his way to marry a lass from Friesland. He must have picked it up at home in Jutland, because it claimed two of Jungere's little brothers as well. the diplomacy in Friesland continued in the hands of Truan, to a successful conclusion. Having effectively consolidated northern Europe politically, Guthrum set to thinking of ways to socially and culturally tie his diverse lands.
THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Giovanni d' Orsini, Rex Sognari
DIPLOMACY: Carinthi (fa), Tuscany (fa), Savoy (f)
Giovanni ordered his troops home after the war with Siqilli, and most of them made it. War is hell, as they say. Some diplomatic works were in progress, with varying degrees of success. Giovanni's son, heir, and namesake perished in an avalanche in the Dolomiti Range.
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
John X, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Papal States, and Servant of the Servants of God
DIPLOMACY:none
Il Papa sent adminstrative aides to France and Denmark, and he himself went along to found a string of religious abbies and monasteries in France. Bishop Cristopher was in German lands, doing pretty much the same thing. Getting Peter's Pence back to Rome was proving to be tenuous, however, since the logistical strength of the Catholic religious network was approaching (and sometimes exceeding) its limit. Previous investments in the training of scribes paid off, with more and more monks to transcribe bibles for the new abbies and monasteries.
THE NAPOLI KINGDOM
Enrico I, King of Naples
DIPLOMACY: Sicily (nt), Cyprus (a)
Ricardo passed through St. Peter's gate, or so it is told, and his only son Enrico took the throne at the age of 19. The homeland was improved dramatically, and the king himself went to Sicily to "liberate" them. Some appreciation was extended to the Napoli King, since he convinced the hated Lombards and their allies to get out.
UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
Abdullah Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel's Bane
DIPLOMACY: Gebel-al-Tarik (nt), Estremadura (fa), Salamanca (a), Aragon (a)
The Caliph of Iberia sent his diplomats out to acquire some allies, and they did. Abdullah's two eldest sons had family-growing experiences with their wives. Abdullah's third son Ibrahim was wanting some of what his big brothers were chuckling about all the time, and apparently found hisself a little something sweet in the Murcian underworld. When the sweet-tart's compdres suggested they get a little extra in the royal cirlces, he balked, and was never seen from again. Some of the local's most notorious were rounded up and tortured to death, but they gave no coherent clues to Ibrahim's whereabouts, and the Nasir Caliph figured his son got he had coming for not waiting for a royal marriage.
AFRIQA
MERC TROOPS 5MC, 18MI, 9MS, 6MW, 4MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W02
MERC LEADERS: Jabulu M935
THE CALIPHATE AL MORAVID
Yahya III, the Faithful
DIPLOMACY: Tunisia (t), Merrakesh (t)
Yayha restricted his efforts and focused them on the single region of Tunisia. He was infinitely more successful at diplomacy than his earlier attempts. His newly named heir Mulay attempted the same routine in Merrakesh, and achieved some welcome results, but it cost him his life. He died of unknown causes in his sleep. Yahya wasted little time apponting a replacement, but hasn't as yet named a new heir to the Caliphate. A couple new merchant vessels were sent off to the young Napoli kingdom.
THE FATAMID EMPIRE
Farouk Hussayn, Imam Ubaydullah al Mahdi
DIPLOMACY: Lebanon (a), Levant (f), Syria (f)
Farouk continued the merchant fleet expansion routine of previous years. He also had some more children, and felt quite like quite the stud, until two of his previous offspring died while swimming in the Nile. Foul play wasn't suspected in either case. His diplomats were out talking with his allies, and getting one more for the empire. Farouk's ally from Mansura died on his way to Petra, but the Mansuran heir lacked any experience at running a kingdom on his own, and chose to continue the alliance of his father.
THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Minkah Kersil
DIPLOMACY: Galam (t), Adrar (nt), Takrur (fa), Dogamba (fa)
Minkah had a few more children with the wife, as he ruled over his stretching kingdom. His power reaches now to the Atlantic Ocean, and north through the desert. Trade was started with the Moroccans.
THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO
M'Bundu, King of the Dark
DIPLOMACY: none
Nothing happened in the HKK. Except for T'Dolo's death. That ought to fall into the "something" category. After all, kings don't die alll the time, especially without heirs. Anyways, T'Dolo's eldest daughter had married the chieftain in M'Bundu, and he claimed the throne without too much argument from anyone else.
KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
N'wanko, King of Benin
DIPLOMACY: none
The Nigerians meandered aimlessly. Again.
THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Tunka Vorta, Omar Kanembu
DIPLOMACY: Zerma (a), Nupe (a)
Tunka was remarkably nondirective.
THE PAINTED WOLF TRIBES (ZIMBABWE)
Chanu Follak't, Bloodspear
DIPLOMACY: Banhine (f), Nguni (f)
Bloodspear set his leaders to administrating his outstretched nation, and taxes flowed like water to his capitol. All is well in the south of Afriqa., except when Cahnu's eldest son died of unexplained causes. He had to name his next son as heir to the Bloodspear.
THE AMERICAS
MERC TROOPS 0MC, 13MI, 10MS, 12MW, 13MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W01
MERC LEADERS Saltican M953
THE AZTEC EMPIRE:
Calliacatl, Divine Ruler of Mexico
DIPLOMACY: Totonac (t), tarascan (nt), Otomi (ne)
Calliacatl spent his time wowing the Toton tribes to give tribute to his growing empire. Little else happened, except for the regularly scheduled sacrifices to Tonatiuh and Quetzalcoatl.
THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Itzam Mo, Priest-King of the Yucatan
DIPLOMACY: none
The Mayans continued watching the heavens, hoping for another one of those really cool meteor showers... Itzam outlived his only son and heir, who fell down the stairs of the Temple of the Sun one night while "under the influence" of some particularly effective hallicinogenic fungi.
QUIRO MAPUCHE
Mali, the Chosen
DIPLOMACY: none
The Chosen One was feeling the urge...again. His wife tried to run, but Mali's advisors found her in one of her attendant's rooms, and brought her back to Mali. Mali pressed his husbandly rights and she bore him three more children, totally 14 at last count. Sadly, two earlier children died, including their eldest son. Taloric continued to "supervise" things at the university,
THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Telcio, Emperor of the Heavens
DIPLOMACY: Moche (a), Moquequa (ea), Pucara (f)
Telcio rose from his slumber to rule his nation from the capitol and watch the empire grow. And grow it did. He spent with a heavy hand in public works throughout the empire, and his diplomats reaped profits from his doing so. Laying out a sizable chunk of cash for the foundation of cities in Moquequa and Pucara helped their hands as well. Telcio's eldest son Ptontic (silent "P"), was recognized as Heir to the Empire.
ANASAZI
Oraibi Wupatki, Chief Executive of the High Desert
DIPLOMACY: Navajo (f)
Hasaan stayed in the capitol and ruled from there, having become too old and grizzly to tromp around the frontier anymore. Some have even become calling him "Kishka Urzalo" (Sitting Lizard). His allies and national leaders were sitting a lot too, since they vactaioned for pretty much a full 5 years. One of them, Dull Knife, actually died while vactioning in Tiwa. Hasaan's daughter visited the Navajo tribes, and overcame hostilities from some factions to achieve their formal entrance into the growing federation. Hasaan surprised many by deciding to run again for re-election, despite his advanced age, and keeping his daughter for a running mate. She might have had a better chance if she ran for the Presidency herself, since her father was too old in the eyes of most citizens to rule effectively another term. The new federation saw the election of its second President.
THE SONOMA KINGDOM
Rafael, King of Sonoma
DIPLOMACY:Salinan (f)
Running Deer had a bright future leading the kingdom to a prosperous and happy destiny. His marriage to a Salina bride was personally arranged by Rafael, but on the wedding night, disaster struck. At supper after his coronation and subsequent wedding, he collapsed and suffocated in the presence of the entire wedding party. Rafael took his death worst of all, and in a deep depression he at first refused to assume the mantle of kingship. It was Running Deer's little sister who convinced Rafael to do what was best for the kingdom, and only upon her pleas did Rafael agree to become king. One of his first acts as king was to have a census conducted.
THE IROQOUIS NATION
Uphand Fox, Prime Chief of the Council
DIPLOMACY: Michagamea (f)
The Fox Chief returned to Adena and supervised the Council from there, while his heir went to take a bride from Michagamea. Chief Longbow was his best man, and had some public works constructed while they were in the neighborhood. The council spent a small fortune purchasing the freedom of all the slaves in the nation from their owners, and subsequently outlawed slavery in any form.
