TURN 5 ORDERS DUE BACK BY 5 October, 1159pm to eddief6@ix.netcom.com
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS

MAP NOTES
Some Capitols are not on the maps, All Capitols listed on the players.txt file actually exist even if they're not on the map. I have upgraded my sytem to 16MB of RAM, so now I can view all those nice maps with the PaintShop Pro software in the Lords 20 website. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to write on them with that program (I think it might just be a viewer), meaning I'll need to get a .gif editor instead of just a viewer.
If you still need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.
RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS
React order: I'd like to explain my personal perception of this order for your leaders. When you place a leader on orders to react up to a given number of action (movement) points away, he is essentially using his time commanding a weblike network of scouts, logistics, and supply lines. As such, I'm inclined to disallow said leaders to perform most other actions (i.e. rule, admin, dp, and vacation). As usual, I am open to suggestions or comments in this aspect of our lords campaign.
Feudal allies: Remember, only attack actions. (ref 2.13.6.9) They aren't going to show up on stats sheets, coming up only when called up, and going away (back to their home region) at the end of the turn. This means they won't react to defend your kingdom, but they will muster up some guys to go attack your neighbor. They expect a cut of the loot, of course.
Raids and Slave Raids: Very popular, which is nice for slave-based economies. The problem arises when the same regions are R and SR every turn. Expect them to go "hostile" after a turn or three, and if you want more slaves and gold from there, bring a LOTTA spears.
Thin Gov't: Leniency is still in effect. (LAST turn).
Allied troops: There is a non-published rule in Lords where the allied troops of an allied region become "nationalized" when the region goes friendly. The most general and probable thing players do is disband them for NFP. I was made aware of this last turn, and have consequently gone through and added the appropriate number of NFP to players saved. This saved NFP is not an error, if you have several f regions, you should have recieved these when they went friendly, and I'm catching up. Since these NFP were once infantry, players may elect (in their next orders, a one time good deal) to have them as infantry again at no gp cost. The reason I didn't make them all infantry now is the extra support cost for the vast majority of players who would want the NFP instead of the infantry.
Slave NFP use: sNFP can be used by nations with slave based economies to build cities, fortresses, royal or postal roads, canals and other MCs, and pwb. They cannot be used to build troops of any kind. sNFP cann't be used at all by nations without a slave economic base.
Visions...
"Will not the mountains quake and hills melt at the coming of his darkness? Share this vision with your enemies, Lim-Dul, and they shall wither. Leshrac, Walker of Night
"...but a spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission." Neil Peart

THE FAR EAST
MERC TROOPS 7MC, 7MI, 5MS, 2MW, 5MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W01
MERC LEADERS none
UNITED STATES OF ASIA (JIHPEN)
Senji Oba, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY: Shikoku (a), Kagoshima (nt), Toyama (ea)
The Japanes consolidated their holdings through more diplomacy, and Jiro was content to sit back and watch things roll along. He rolled along too, into the next world, and the Vice Pres Senji Oba had to step up and be President. He was alright at it, but the polls didn't reflect high regard for him among the citizenry. More trade ships plied the seas to the mainland.
THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Qui, God-Emperor of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Anhui (ne), Hunan (ea), Chekiang (ea), Hubei (ne), Szechwan (t), Chiennan (c)
The God-Emperor was rather ineffective at his own attempts at diplomacy, with the notable exception being the Hunan province, where he coincidentally built a new port city on the banks of the Dongsha Hei. Both he and his heir had several children.
THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Zhu Wen the Liberator, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: Yen (ea)
Zhu Wen raided Bandao, but was pretty unimpressed with the payoff. He returned stright to Honan, where his heir was doing a fair job of ruling the nation in Zhu's absence. His two generals were out of the capitol, marrying off the Emperor's daughters in diplomatic endeavors. More trade ships were constructed and assigned to various shipping lanes.
THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Wang Kso, The One-Eyed Dragon
DIPLOMACY: Houma (ea), Yanzhi (nt)
The Dragon returned in triumph to China, having beaten the snot out of the evil Koreans. His first task was to get an alliance from Houma, which was pretty easy after such a tremendous military feat. Unfortunately, he had a stroke and died at the bargaining table in Houma, and they settled for a partial alliance. His son Wang Kso took the throne without any naysaying from any pretenders, and took a wife from Houma. They were a little pleased, and a little surprised. Wang Kso married off his sister, to the overlods of Kansu province, without noticable effect in their status. The lack of dowry, or even a diplomatic visit from anyone in the Shensi court was duly noted in Kansu. Wang wasted no time starting his own family. .
THE HONG KONG TRADERS
Xian Wu, King of Hong Kong
DIPLOMACY: Lingsi (fa)
Liu Van was all set to get the Taiwanese totally comitted to Hong kong, when he was found dead in his bedchamber one cold spring morning in 921 AD. With only a infant son left behind in Hong Kong, and no brothers, his sisters Mai and Thuy were the only hope for the continuation of the Liu dynasty. They had no pull on the court though, who played the power games for about 2 months before a new king was crowned. One of Van's oldest leaders, Xian Wu. His Taiwanese ally was at sea by then, judging the currents to Taiwan. However, he couldn't keep the fleet together, and nearly all the ships were lost in the short exploration.
THE DALAI LAMA
Kuo Mojo
DIPLOMACY: none
The Dalai remained in meditation in Tibet, while Grand Abbot Chueh Shi-Kai was spending his efforts in the assistance of the United Monarchy of Ava. Two more abbeys were also founded, in Guizhou and Nanchao/Tai'Li.
SOUTH EAST ASIA AND THE PACIFIC RIM
MERC TROOPS 12MC, 12MI, 3MS, 12MW, 5MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I01 W02
MERC LEADERS none
THE UNITED MONARCHY OF THE AVANS
Narathu went into the field again, raiding for slaves and gold, again. Fearing for the health and emotional state of the queen, he left her in the Capitol while he went a-romping. While he wasn't politely recieved anywhere (except when he got home), the Laotians and Koratians fought back in pockets, and told Narathu to fear for his life if he returned. Kurijaiga put down his administrative duties for a while, and visited the Samatatans on behalf of his "Celestial, Virtuous, and Benignant" King.
THE JAVAN FEDERATION
The Javans changed little. The sky and the ocean stayed blue. (except for a certain delinquent from the capitol pouring washwater into the bay just outside the capitol. He was arrested, of course, and found guilty of pollution by Judge Wopner. The convict extolled his innocence to Doug Llewellan on his way to 70 years of hard labor.)
THE EMPIRE OF CHAMPA
Palpatyn's actions were pretty much the same as the previous years. He got more slaves, used the ones he had to improve the Capitol region. Palpatyn's general and his ally went north to get yet more slaves, and although there was sporadic resistance in all regions, the Champans' huge and growing army was successful. Palpatyn's diplomats went to Phan Rang, and got Palpatyn's ally to join the Empire fully.
THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Palaau watched the sea and the sky...
THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Yamma made a speech, even though it wasn't the most inspiring in history. He said "Looks like we're producing enough food now. Let's party.". His subjects keyed in on that last sentence. The heir, Yamma Lamma, spent an inordinate amount of time with his new Toowomba wife, and had some heirs of his own. These are after all, a good thing to have when you're king. And he was, since Yamma Yamma died late in 924.
INDIA AND MIDDLE EAST
EMPIRE OF THE LOWER GANGES
The Ganges gaurdian put up some more port fortresses, and generally spent a lot of dough. His accountants put on the brakes, however, when he decreed a royal road connecting his cities, and didn't have nearly the cash for it. The royal family continued to grow, but there was plenty of food since the crops were as usual, well ahead of any consumption in the foreseeable future.
THE INDUS VALLEY KINGDOM
Mahendrapala was the wise ruler for the Indus valley folk, and tried his best to have another son. He and the queen succeeded after having a total of nine daughters, to have a second son and brother to the heir. The diplomats did their thing in outlying regions, to decent effect, and the homeland was beautified some more.
THE RAJPUT KINGDOM OF INDIA
Kris bankrolled the construction of some trade ships, and aquired a nice new ally.
THE CHOLA MANDALAM
Aditya invested heavily in governmental agencies, and was rewarded for his investitures.
IMAM MUSLIM
A new nation with first option going to Grant@metier.demon.co.uk
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Caliph Ali was still in Mosul, and although he's such a likable guy, he was constantly saying the wrong things. He stuck to the "What a great city Bagdad is!" pitch, and it worked again, due largely to his continued repeating for almost five years. He had his queen there, as well, but she really wanted to be back in her great capitol, to raise her children in the glory rightfully theirs (and hers...). Ali's leaders were all out preaching the word of Abbasid, with some effect. His only ally, from Hahmar, died while on his trip, and the lack of a suitable replacement led the Hahmarans to join the Caliphate fully.
THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Qara's diplomat Assad remained in Otrar until they agreed to an alliance, and he had Yussuf remain in Kophat-Dagh and keep an eye on things. He could have taken care of all these things himself, but he was out with his 20,000 horsemen, conducting "exercises" on some neightboring provinces (and getting rat-faced drunk a few dozen times). he did manage to have a daughter with his wife before he left for all the fun.
EAST EUROPE
PRINCIPATE OF KIEV RUS
Sibirsk kept his eyes open.
THE POLISH KINGDOM
The palota-meister played the "wise and benevolent ruler" part while his son and heir tried to have a son of his own. "Tried" being the operative word here. After nine (count em) daughters, the people were beginning to wonder if something wasn't wrong with Jobe. The standard slave run was made, off to the south, but not into what the Kievans considered their turf. Piast's second son Igor became assumed his non-crown princely duties (drinking, gambling, and oat-sowing).
THE NOVGOROD KINGDOM
Boris went into his new kingdom to get some tribute from those pesky serfs bfore returning to take a break. Pretty much the same route as he went on a couple years back. Most gave it up, but not everyone was willing to accede to the Czar's demands. His son, Vasili, became old enough to pick up some of the kingdom-running workload.
THE BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE
Leo remained in Lydia and accepted the full aliance of the Lydian king, while his son and heir Basil was in Thrace, where he acquired the same allegiance from the king of Thrace. The Emperor's financing of public works in Thrace were appreciated by the locals, as was the loose cash Basil was giving the poor. Maniakes remained in Macedon, as governor for the region.
WEST EUROPE
THE SAXON KINGDOM OF SUSSEX
Edward was in Anglia trying the peaceful methods of building his kingdom, while his general Jacobe was under orders to use more direct methods. The regions of Mercia and Northumbria were overwhelmed and firmly placed under the heel of the Sussex king, with little loss of life to his own troops.
THE KINGDOM OF WEST FRANCIA
The French diplomats weren't through, and they were going to say their piece to pretty much the entire French speaking regions. The Ile de France was cleaned up some and a few constables hired to protect all that money coming into the king's coffers.
THE KINGDOM OF GERMANIA
Ludwig stayed home like many other monarchs, and had the assistance of his general Cristof. His heir Wilhelm went on a diplomatic trip to Westphalia with Ludwig's other general, Stroud Neidereissen. Together they almost got the Duke of Westphalia to swear fealty to Ludwig, but had to settle for an alliance. Ludwig's other allies spent the years looking for skirmishes on the borders. Vast sums of the national budget were invested in the infrastucture, presumably to be able to avoid the use of the Pope's scribes. Trade was initiated with the Lombard Italians
THE DANISH KINGDOM
The aging Danish king spent his years in the Capitol, making laws and dispensing justice. He also managed to have four more kids with the queen. His heir Raven went exploring supposed currents to lands north and east of England, and returned with about half his ships and news of a large island of ice. More trade ships were built and set to fishing and trade with the Sussex Kingdom.
THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Giovanni Rex found hisself a Savoian sweet-thang and learned hisself a new dance, the mambo. Liked this dance so much, he did, that he delayed his return to his capitol for about a year. Eventually his new wife, Janni, convinced him it would be better for the kingdom to have his heir born in the capitol city, so off they went. Giovanni's newest admiral went off too, right back for some more loot out of the Siqillian homeland. They raided a few towns for some village tax collectors' strongboxes, and were planning to cart off a few thousand of the locals too (as slaves, of course), until they realized there was no room for 'em on the ships. Admiral Sforza was roundly chastised by his king upon his not-quite-as-triumphant-as-he-wanted return.
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
Pope gregory died while performing missionary work in Russia, and the Council of Cardinals elected an Italian successor, Pope John X. Bishop Cristopher set up an abbey in Romagna, and canonized the first monastery outside Rome in Verona/Venice. Infrastructure was loaned to the Danes far to the north.
THE NAPOLI KINGDOM
King Ricardo traded places with his general Flores, and went back to Italy, while Flores picked up in Cyprus where his king left off. Campania was more attractive.
AL AGHRABID EMIRAT AS SIQILLI
The Siqillian homeland was raided for the second time by the Lombards, but the robustness of the Italians prevented the pirates from carting off more than a couple dozen of them in slavery.
UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
The Caliph Nasir remained in Murcia, to rule his people, and have more children with his wife. Meanwhile, his diplomats covered the Islamic half of Iberia, with respectable results for their efforts.
AFRIQA
THE CALIPHATE AL MORAVID
Yayha got back to work buiding his nation, and spent some time scoffing at the Cordavan Caliph's title. Realizing his nephew was more talented at warfare and discourse (and lacking any sons) he named Mulay al Raisuli his heir, and promptly married him to one of two previously hostile regions (Zirid). Mulay went to other, Cheliff as well, and patched up some (purely unintentional of course) relations with them. Yahya himself was way east in Tunisia, but got little in the way of agreements there. All of Yahya's daugters were married in the bargains.
THE FATAMID EMPIRE
The Fatamid Caliph stayed in the capitol and supervised the conduction of a national census, and also to have a son or seven. His wife bore four more children for him, and happily, two were sons. General Al'Kasim ran the soon to be standard slave run to the west, and Farouk paid a king's fortune to hire the mercenary commander Mombasa to bring Syria and Jordan closer to the empire.
THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Osei was not getting the message. The Ghanans were not going to talk with the Songhai royalty themselves, much less their lackeys, until the troop garrisoning the region were removed. period. As if this wasn't ineffective enough, Minkah's other emissaries were pretty much ignored as well.
THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO
T'Dolo was so proud of his son, he was sure he would leave a lasting mark on the world. Alas, his last son N'Bambe perished during his rites of manhood, leaving the King of the Dark without a son to pass his kingdom to. He did manage to marry off all three of his daughters, to various regions.
KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
N'wanko assumed the title of "King" to go with his "Kingdom". The Ife residents were ready to call him their liege, especially after he bankrolled a nice, new city for them. The king returned to Onitsha and had some kids, three nice helathy sons, in fact. The African gods were smiling...
THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Yes travelled way west, across the Niger, into the Zerma lands and got them to agree to enter the Kanebu nation, in name at least, while his lieutenant Dunama tried the same with the Nupe tribes. They weren't quite as impressed as the Zermans, probably cuz Dunama wasn't the king. He also ordered the construction of a port fortess on the banks of the Niger in Gorouol, and had some trade ships port there between trips to Benin and Konitsha.
THE PAINTED WOLF TRIBES (ZIMBABWE)
In a concerted effort by Chanu and his two best diplomats, he organized a diplomacy blitz covering most all of Xhosa and Zulu Africa. Responses were fair, overall. His daughters were prizes he bestowed on some of the regions, with some lovely cash, er, dowry. While Chanu was out in the field, his heir Chalat ran the shop in Harare.
THE AMERICAS
Calliacatl finally issued some orders. His first was to release Aztec claims and control over Huave and Popoluca. This was done presumably to get the Mayan Astronomer-King to release control of Totonac, and Calliacatl could go and get Totonac to join his own Empire. Trade was also established with the Mayans across the Tehunapec mountain range.
THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
The priest-king gave up all control of Totonac, and went with his heir and his ally to Popoluca where they all ganged up on the poor sot, burying him with reasons to join forces with the astronomers. They agreed to give tribute to Itzam. He also married off both his children and got a couple of allies for his efforts.
QUIRO MAPUCHE
The Chosen spent his time taking care of internal matters, while he had Taloric take a very long vacation. He got pretty good at surf-fishing, and a real nice tan too.
THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Telcio stayed home and ruled the empire and had yet more kids (figures estimate somewhers around a dozen), and ruled the empire his diplomats were out trying to broaden.
ANASAZI
The Running Lizard set aside his title of King, and took the title, powers, limitations, and responsibilities of "president". He assured his people Morning Star, his daughter and Vice President, would only be so for his presidency, and scheduled a presidential election for 930 AD. Anasazi diplomats continued their tandem efforts in outlying regions.
THESONOMA KINGDOM
White Shark and his Lieutenenant stayed in place and continued the diplomacy speeches of the last five years. He found a wife in Patwin, which added considerably to the negotiations, and ordered the foundation for the city of Tharsis, in Pomo.
THE IROQOUIS NATION
Chief Fox went to do some diplomacy in far away Yamasee, and he sent his son with his Michigan ally even further away. Not for good, just long enough to bring the Atakapans into the empire. Dark Feather secured a trade alliance with them, and got married in the bargain.
