ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS
There is a Lords20 maillist at lords20-l@lists.pbmgames.com for general Lords 20 discussion topics and announcements. Email to it and put "subscribe {your email address}" in the body to get on it.
PROGRAM COMMENTS
The Intercity trade income isn't working for fa cities. If you have one or more of these, add them into your intercity trade income til I get this figured out. The tithe subroutine is working again. Everything else appears to be working normally. I am still using Stats3.1g. I have a copy of 3.1i, but the trade routes aren't showing up as they should. I'll stick to what I know works before switching to 3.1i. Also, I think the University calculator is screwy. Investigating... I have been informed the formula in the version 5 rules is Wrong. I am researching for the correct one.
MAP NOTES
If you still need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.
RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS
Please read the rules addendum, on the Lords20 web site.
Thin Gov't Leniency no longer in effect, and DF immunity is cancelled for the world.
New rules, effective at the end of this turn
1. limits to number of leaders: 1xK, 1xH, (BL)xL, (BL)xA, (BL/2)xP, 1xM
If you have too many A leaders at turn end, the regions will remain full allied, bu tthe leaders will vanish in a puff of logic.
2. Raided (R or SR) regions won't go "hostile" or "at war", their proclivity to fight back is measure by their resistance on a case by case basis.
3. Don't let your ruler travel more than his CCR from the capitol/homeland. He won't have a job if or when he returns.
4. Children will only be born when the HC order is used, King or Heir only. Others will be created retroactively only when needed for the sake of common sense.
Orders format, wow. Muchas gracias, amigos. Your GM loves you all. Finally, please don't submit "standing" orders. Just include them in each orders form, and I can much more easily take care of these orders, or at least have no excuse for forgetting to run them.
TROOP CONVERSIONS
Infantry (500 men = 1 point), Cavalry (500 men = 1 point), Siege Engineers (500 men = 1 point), Warships (5 ships = 1 point), Transports (5 ships = 1 point)

Tobri Anwa, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY: Nigata (f), Suifenhe (nt), Sikhote (c), Amgu (fa), Kagoshima (f), Anshan (nt), Mantap(c), Akita (nt), Hokkaido (nt)
The Nipponese diplomats were out in force, most especially along the mainland coast, and Anwa-San supervised a count of all the citizens on the Islands. More merchant ships were dispatched to the Chinese mainland in search of more cold, hard cash.
THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Song, God-Emperor of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Chiennan (f), Jiangxi (f)
Quian Song placed his forces on their highest state of military alertness, but wasn't required to actually employ them in the defense of China. His diplomats were out in force, much like the Japanese, and he married his new heir to a Jiangxi princess. He also financed the foundation of two new cities; Nanchang in Jiangxi, and Chengdu in Chiennan. His second-in command, the Duke of Taiping died, and his replacement chose to retain an alliance similar to his predecessor.
THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Wo Hu Lei, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: Liao'tung (ea), Shangtung (a), Bao Ding (f)
Zhu calmly sat and ruled his kingdom some more. he was such a calm and mellow guy, it was almost two days before his aides relaized he wasn't meditating. He was really dead. Wo Hu Lei took over after the big funeral, and replaced the national leaders who had the nerve to die on him.
THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Wang Kso, The One-Eyed Dragon
DIPLOMACY: Shansi (f)
The Dragon of the Middle Kingdom visited his royal personage on the Kansu leaders, who were unconvinced of the sincerity of his diplomatic advances. The Shensi troops lining the halls with sharp, pointy spears probably had a lot to do with that. His daughter, Princess Teng Yen-Ta took her forces on a very long march to the Avan Kingdom.
THE HONG KONG TRADERS
Xian Lao, King of Hong Kong
DIPLOMACY: none
Xian Lao devised a plan to assist the Avans in their strugle with the Champans, and hired a fleet of mercenary seamen. These corsairs he combined with his own fleet and sailed south to steal some cold, hard cash from the Vietnamese. He also sent one of his allies to Ava to assist in their defense, and made significant contributions to the efforts of the Dalai Lama.
THE INCREDIBLY PEACEFUL CELESTIAL KINGDOM OF THE JADE BUDDHA
Kuo Mojo, 3rd Incarnation of the Blessed Jade Buddha, Light on the Path to Nirvanah, Illuminator of the Human Soul, Thinker of Deep Thoughts, Mayor of Shangri-La
DIPLOMACY: none
The Dalai showed his support fully behind the United Monarchy of the Avans. Really wasn't any question, being open armed conflict against a Bhuddist nation. Anyways, gold was sent along with one of the Dalai's Grand Abbots.
SOUTH EAST ASIA AND THE PACIFIC RIM
MERC TROOPS 4MC, 3MI, 5MS, 14MW, 6MT
MERC AQRS C01 S02 I01 W02
MERC LEADERS none
THE UNITED MONARCHY OF THE AVANS
Narathu II, The Celestial, Virtuous, and Benignant King Narathu Hsiapaw II, Monarch of
all Burmese People, Exarch of Arakan, Munificent Potentate of Pegu, Just Paragon to Thaton, Beloved Leader of Sagaing, and Dispenser of all Avan Goodness and Benevolence
DIPLOMACY: Sagaing (nt), Samatata (ne), Arakan (c)
Narathu was fairly convinced he would be the recipient of another Champan invasion, so he massed forces in the defense of his nation. But that wasn't all, oh no. He also assembled a force of 7,000 heavy horsemen, and gave them over to his son with direction to sneak into the home region of the Champan nation and burn and pillage as much as possible, while taking a minimum of casualties. Aid was recieved from far away China, in the form of 7,000 footmen marching under the banner of the Shensi Kingdom.
THE EMPIRE OF CHAMPA
Palpatyn, Emperor Viet
DIPLOMACY: Mon (a)
Palpatyn mustered his own forces in Khemer, using crippling taxation to finance a rebuild of the army, and a count of the nation's populus. Few stood tall to be counted for such heavy taxation. Palpatyn sent Prince Darh to retrieve most of the Champa and Vijaya garrisons to Angor, where they waited to see who would think them weak after the debacle at Pagan.
It was the Avan heir Paratha with his heavy horsemen, who truthfully weren't very accomplished at sneaking around. The Siam garrison retreated before Paratha into Khemer, where they joined with Lord Angur and his new host. Paratha's cavalry contingent tried to avoid the field forts scattered around Khemer, and also met up with Lord Angur, but were surprised and surrounded by a more accomplished warlord and a force more than tenfold their own size. The few not slain were enslaved, and Paratha captured by Angur. The Emperor laughed long and hard at his good fortune.
Palpatyn didn't have all the answers though. For example, he didn't know why the trade ships stoped running to and from Hong Kong. He found out when his eastern border was overrun by the Hong Kong traders. OK, mostly it was mercenaries hired by the Hong Kong traders, but the effect was the same. They landed in Champa, and although what remained of the Vijaya force issued forth for the Emperor, they were forced to retreat back into Vijaya. The Chinese mercs and buccaneers pacified the inhabitants and looted the region, before boarding their ships and proceeding down the coast to Cochin. By this time, Lord Angur and Emperor Palpatyn had gotten wind of the corsairs, and Angur took his legion to Cochin to prevent a recurrent robbery. The raiding mercenaries declined to undertake a prolonged looting with such a defense force involved, preferring to remain offshore, scoffing at he landlubber Champans.
Rightly feeling underdefended and overtaxed, Champa revolted, and Phan Rang and Preikuk degraded in status.
THE JAVAN FEDERATION
Koer Singh, President Sirivjavan
DIPLOMACY: none
President Singh lost his friend and Vice President to a fever disease, and gave his leaders instructions to convert the Federation's outlying regions to Bhuddism. Their efforts met with little success, although they did manage to keep out of the mess on the mainland.
THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Wabodon Soba, Son of Sea and Sky
DIPLOMACY: none
Maaori orders were not received again.
THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Lamma, Chief He'e Nalu, "Leader of the Pack"
DIPLOMACY: none
The Leader of the Pack was content to go nowhere, and to do nothing. He actually became something of a professional a nothing-doer. His favorite place to work (at doing nothing, of course) was the beach, where nothing happened anyways.

MERC LEADERS Mohmand Charon M788
EMPIRE OF THE LOWER GANGES
Karadi Singham, Keeneh, Imperial Regent for Narayanapala III, Guardian of the Ganges
DIPLOMACY: none
Karadi spent his budget building up the fortess walls in Tamaralipti, wher he hid for several years, and expanding the city itself. New footmen were also outfitted for service to the Empire. Then he spent his time running the kingdom, and tasked his leaders to assist him in preparing the Empire for their soon-to-be new Emperor.
THE INDUS VALLEY KINGDOM
Mushtaq, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus
DIPLOMACY: Ghazni (f), Sukkur (t)
Mahendrapala passed away very early in 941, and his only son Mushtaq took over the reins of power. He had to do a bit of hiring too, since a couple of his father's advisors died of old age while vacationing. Well, they considered it retirement, really. So it wasn't like they died on the job, in their minds anyways.
THE RAJPUT KINGDOM OF INDIA
Ruhan Naf, Lord of the River, Life-Giver
DIPLOMACY: none
Rajput orders were not received again.
THE CHOLA MANDALAM
Aditya, Mandala Chola
DIPLOMACY: none
Several things happened in the South of India. Several funerals, that is. Beginning with the crown prince Abas, murdered in his sleep. He was replaced as heir by his younger brother Tchen, who was swearing innnocence and ignorance in the matter. One of Aditya's Lieutenants also died, as did his Seylanese ally. Seylan degraded to fa.
IMAM MUSLIM
Allahu Akbah, Siadat Kuran
DIPLOMACY: none
Takkafore set to formulating plans for the education of the faithful. He wanted to stretch the influence of Mecca far into Persia, but his underlings convinced him such a place was pointless at present. They argued, successfully, that such a distance would make timely communication nearly impossible. He died in 942, and was replaced as Siadat by one Allahu Akbah from Assyria.
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Ali, Kaliphat Rasul Allah
DIPLOMACY: none
The Kaliphat was unremarkably quiet.
THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Qara Bachkam, Kophatshah
DIPLOMACY: Persia (c), Transoxania (a)
Qara visited Persia, marrying off his second daughter in the process. His diplomats in Transoxania picked up another ally for him, and Samarkand expanded again.

MERC AQRS I02 C03 S01 W02
MERC LEADERS none
PRINCIPATE OF KIEV RUS
Chenya, Grand Princess of Kiev
DIPLOMACY: Vlad (No not Vlad something, just Vlad) MB28
The Grand Prince Sibirsk died late in 937 and was succeeded by his son and heir, Illyan, who was already 46 years old. At the age of 47, he too died. Having outlived all of his brothers, Sibirsk's eldest living daughter Chenya assumed the title of Grand Princess of Kiev. There were other pretenders to the throne, but their claims were without substance. Suitors have been lining up for 3 years, but she hasn't wed yet.
THE POLISH KINGDOM
Piast III, Palota Polski
DIPLOMACY: Little Poland (ne), Galacia (t), Moldavia (fa), Slovakia (c to Germania)
King Piast I dragged his weary bones to Lausatia to move some troops back to the homeland, while his sons were out and about the kingdom. The standard slave raids and all, during which only one region put up a fight, and it was only a nuisance really. That's about when the Pole leaders started dropping. King Piast I died in his sleep in June of 943. His son Jobe lasted as king for only a year before he too died. So, King Piast I's grandson became King Piast III late in 944 A.D..
THE NOVGOROD KINGDOM
Vasili Borislov
DIPLOMACY: Rzhev (ea), Smolensk (f), Kirivitch (f), Suzdal (a), Muscovy (t),
The Novgorod King put all of his slaves to work building big things, like a port fortress in Smolensk. So he went out to get some more, although his troops took a few casualities in the process. Seversk, Mordva, and Murom all put up what resistance they could, futile as it was. Vasili's heir Ivan was sent to select a bride from Suzdal, but couldn't decide one just one. So he married four Suzdal women in a pagan ceremony, and set about having a few sons (and a whole lot of fun). Vasili's other son died in a horse race.
THE BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE
Leo VI, the Wise, Roman Emperor of the East, "Hammer of the Serbs"
DIPLOMACY: Isauria (fa), Morea (t), Paphlagonia (ea)
The grizzled Roman Emperor retired to Constantinople to live out his years in relative peace and quiet. Actually ruling the day to day affairs was more work than he wanted, but he appointed several officials to take care of the most boring bits. His heir Basil was in Isauria, and his other son Berengar was in Morea, where he died while engaged in diplomatic discussions.
WEST EUROPE
MERC TROOPS22MC, 15MI, 9MS, 6MW, 8MT

MERC LEADERS: Amin Said M883
THE SAXON KINGDOM OF SUSSEX
Merriden I, Saxon King of England

THE REPUBLIC OF WEST FRANCIA
Firmin Ranier, President d' Republique Francois
DIPLOMACY: none
The citizens of the repubic figured out who was the real moving force behind their Presidency, and elected Firmin Ranier over their previous President. Orders weren't received.
THE KINGDOM OF GERMANIA
Ludwig III, Rex Germanicus
DIPLOMACY: none
Ludwig made a deal to get some sand and fill in the swamps his sons kept falling into. He also adopted his dead brother Wilhelm's children. There was talk of proclaiming one of them as the heir, but Norstraf (the current crown prince) was reported to have some pretty strong feelings about that.
THE DANISH KINGDOM
Guthrum, Rex Danmark
DIPLOMACY: Brittany (nt)
The Danish king spent his days ruling his kingdom, while his son conducted some discussions of diplomacy with the local nobility of the extreme northwest of France.
THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Giovanni d' Orsini, Rex Sognari
DIPLOMACY: Crete (c), Romagna (f), Verona (ne), Switzerland (nt)
"The Mambo" King Giovanni ordered a count taken of his loyal subjects, and went to Verona to convince the locals to swear their allegiance to him. Their leader having been dispatched off to Crete along with Giovanni's Romagna ally, they balked at his request, although the Romagnae weren't as reluctant.
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
John X, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Papal States, and Servant of the Servants of God
DIPLOMACY:none
The Papacy was unusually quiet.
THE NAPOLI KINGDOM
Enrico I, King of Naples
DIPLOMACY: Sicily (c), Cyprus (ne), Apulia (a)
The Napolitan Kingdom ran smack into substantial cash flow problems, and had to drop the Papal beaurocratic support due to its inability to pay for such support. Just as well, really, since it wasn't needed. Enrico sent his diplomats out into the Med, and took his entourage to Apulia, where he acquired a new ally. Enrico's supporters urged him to find a wife there as well. He didn't.
UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
Asad Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel's Bane
DIPLOMACY: Valencia (a), New Castille (a), Salamanca (t), Baeleric Isle (t), Catalonia (fa), Old Castille (t), Navarre (t)

AFRIQA
MERC TROOPS 8MC, 5MI, 12MS, 10MW, 8MT
MERC AQRS C01 S02 I02 W02
MERC LEADERS: none
THE CALIPHATE AL MORAVID
Muhammet, "Zaban Nogreh"
DIPLOMACY: Tunisia (ea), Merrakesh (a)
Muhammet travelled the length and breadth of the land, to Tunisia, and convinced them using his famed tongue to join an alliance of the monetary sort. His chief diplomat was on the other side of the nation, financing the construction of a port city, Casablanca, in Merrakesh. Them with the white houses were very appreciative.
THE FATAMID EMPIRE
Farouk Hussayn, Imam Ubaydullah al Mahdi
DIPLOMACY: Mansura (f), Lebanon (f), Thebes (f), Madina (nt)
New docks were built in Thebes, near the Valley of the Kings. Al-Uqsor is the port's name. Al-Iskandariyah was expanded, and some improvements were made in the homeland. Much diplomatic discourse was conducted, and several allies joined the empire fully.
THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Minkah Kersil
DIPLOMACY: Ghana (fa), Kurfei (nt)
The Songhai king ordered the garrisons pulled from duty in Ghana, and sent his best diplomat, Osei, to make peace with the natives. They agreed to a nominal alliance. Wise investments in his government paid high dividends. Minkah declared his son Bakele as his heir.
THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO (HKK)
M'Bundu, King of the Dark
DIPLOMACY: Matadi (nt), Cuango (c), Nambe (c)
General Zer was determined to be a diplomat, and went to Nambe where nearly five years of discussions led to no real commitments from the locals. So he just claimed the region on behalf of the HKK. So happy was he with his not insulting the locals and all, he had a coronary. King M'Bundu had better luck with his efforts, and patched up some ill feelings with the Cuango tribes.
KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
Bongorwa, King of Benin
DIPLOMACY: none
The Benin King remained in the homeland, and ruled the kingdom, while his buddy M'Buddy was doing most of the administrative queepwork. It was enough to drain the life right out of M'Buddy, and he was replaced one of his assistants.
THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Tunka Vorta, Omar Kanembu
DIPLOMACY: Bilma (c), Kanuri (a)
The Omar of the Kanembu nation saw his leaders die one after another. His most capable assistant in administrating the government, Rafiki, followed by two of his allies. Then his eldest son died during his manhood rites, stumbling and falling into a fire. The Omar set up a festival, and sacrificed a thousand farm animals in an effort to gain the gods' favor. It didn't work so well, as his Nupe ally's replacement only agreed to a tributary setup, and the Zerma tribes declined to renew any agreement with Tunka. On a more positive note, Tunka gained an ally in Kanuri, and a new city, Mao, was founded in Soro.
THE PAINTED WOLF TRIBES (ZIMBABWE)
Fulacha Follak't, Bloodspear
DIPLOMACY: NOT!
Fulacha found a leader he could trust and placed the command of his forces in the care of one General Tzuzian. He also spent a tidy sum on hiring some soldiers of fortune. Their victims fell like chaff before the harvester's scythe. Banhine, Phalaborwa, and finally Karanga. There was actually something of a resistance in Karanga, but General Tzuzian found no one there on a strategic or tactical par with himself to match wits against. Sadly (or maybe fortunately) for the Bloodspear, General Tzuzian died at the age of 46, content at having reunited the Painted Wolf Tribes for King Fulacha.
KARA NGAWA DEAD
Zindal Follak't
DIPLOMACY: none
General Tzuzian's 40,000 hp turbo-charged weedeater pretty well took care of the Zimbabwe rebels.
THE AMERICAS
MERC TROOPS 19MI, 0MC, 12MS, 15MW, 12MT
MERC AQRS C01 S01 I02 W02
MERC LEADERS Saltican M953
THE AZTEC EMPIRE:
Calliacatl II, Divine Ruler of Mexico
DIPLOMACY: Huexotla (nt), Culhua (fa)
Calliacatl died at the wizened age of 72, and his heir consumed his heart to gain his strength, and his brain to gain his wisdom. He also took his name. The new God-Emperor realized spending time and actually ruling his people would get him more money and power.
THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Itzam Mo, Priest-King of the Yucatan
DIPLOMACY: none
Itzam Mo left no instructions for his leaders, but this was understandable since he was 66 years old. Guys forget things at that age, even if they are Priest-Kings. When he died with no heir and no sons, there was a struggle for the highest position in the Astronomer Kingdom. After almost 3 weeks of claims and assassinations, Itzam's only daughter's husband pressed his own claim from the Chontal province. No less than four assassination attempts were made on his person, but he managed to survive them all. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for several of his closest friends, including High Priest Belize.
QUIRO MAPUCHE
Mali, the Chosen
DIPLOMACY: none
The Mapuche King decided his son needed someone to bond with, and ensure the royal line and all. So he found his son Aeden a wife and married them to each other. The Mapuche peoples were happy to have the royal line guarunteed, especially since Aeden disappeared one day while out fishing. Everyone presumed he drowned, since none of his fishing party returned. Aeden's younger brother became the Crown Prince.
THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Telcio, Emperor of the Heavens
DIPLOMACY: Moche (f), Moquequa (f), Uru (ea), Wairajikia (fa), Arica (c)
A new city, Machu Picchu, was built high in the Uru region, beside Lake Titicaca. More diplomatic missions were sent out, and a couple regional allies swore their allegiance to Telcio. The university continued to grow, thriving in the peaceful empire.
ANASAZI
Oraibi Wupatki, Chief Executive of the High Desert
DIPLOMACY: none
The executive leaders ran the nation, and were re-elected by a landslide. Having the Vice Pres campaign for nearly 5 years had may have had something to do with it. They saved their harvest for leaner times in the future.
THE SONOMA KINGDOM
Rafael, King of Sonoma
DIPLOMACY: Serrano (f)
King Rafael died very late in 941, and his heir was in Serrano, overseeing the foundation of a new city, Ursa Minoris. The locals were consequently very receptive to Gabriel's diplomatic advances. Gabriel's administrative assistant also died while vacationing off the coast of Salinan, another in the long list of victims to the Great-White-Toothed-Swimming-One.
THE IROQUOIS NATION
Dark Feather, Prime Chief of the Council
DIPLOMACY: Scioto (nt), Chitimacha (c)
In efforts to promote international trade, diplomatic missions were sent to Chatot and Chitimacha. Uphand Fox was supposed to convince the Chatot natives to join the empire, but he died of a fever on his way there from the Carolina Sea. The new Emperor, Dark Feather, got the Chitimachans nominally into the empire, and Scioto was also brought in. The capitol was expanded.
