TURN 5 ORDERS DUE BACK BY 20 Sep, 1159 pm to eddief6@ix.netcom.com
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GM COMMENTS
PROGRAM COMMENTS
When I reinstalled the Lords software (Stats3.1) in Turquiye, it worked great, as far as I could tell. So I reinstalled it here in OKC upon my return, and voila, it's crapping out on tax rate, agro, NFP, leaders and children aging (refusing to even run this subroutine). I'm gonna take a few extra days to try and work it out once and for all with Tom, so stats are gona take a few extra days this turn. Hopefully, I'll be able to give all you folks enough time to work out your turn five orders. If this prog takes more than 3 or 4 days to get back on track, I'll delay the due date a week (making orders due 27 Sep). You all have my apologies, and maybe one of you many GMs playing knows of a more reliable program I might switch to? There's just no way I can keep a two week schedule figuring all these stats by hand.
MAP NOTES
Some Capitols are not on the maps, All Capitols listed on the players.txt file actually exist even if they're not on the map. I have upgraded my sytem to 16MB of RAM, so now I can view all those nice maps with the PaintShop Pro software in the Lords 20 website. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to write on them with that program (I think it might just be a viewer), meaning I'll need to get a .gif editor instead of just a viewer.
If you still need maps, and can't get usable product from the .gif files online (the best map producers have been PaintShop Pro and Pagemaker), send me a check (10$ buys you the world here) and your mapset will go out that day priority mail. USnail service says it takes 1 to 3 days.
RULES ERRATA AND REMINDERS
Tithe Income: If you are paying a tithe to a Religious Primate and the rate of the tithe is less than or equal to 5% then there is no effect to you; you do not lose any money. If the rate of the Tithe is greater than 5%, then you lose 1% of Tax Rate for each percentage point of the tithe over 5.
If you are the Primate recieving the tithe, then the tithe money is automatically calculated for you and added to your Saved Gold each turn by the program.
Imperial Size Minimum: Each nation will always have an Imperial Size of at least one (1). There is no maximum.
React order: I'd like to explain my personal perception of this order for your leaders. When you place a leader on orders to react up to a given number of action (movement) points away, he is essentially using his time commanding a weblike network of scouts, logistics, and supply lines. As such, I'm inclined to disallow said leaders to perform most other actions (i.e. rule, admin, dp, and vacation). As usual, I am open to suggestions or comments in this aspect of our lords campaign.
Feudal allies: Remember only attack actions. (ref 2.13.6.9) They aren't going to show up on stats sheets, coming up only when called up, and going away (back to their home region) at the end of the turn.
Raids and Slave Raids: Very popular, which is nice for slave-based economies. The problem arises when the same regions are R and SR every turn. Expect them to go "hostile" after a turn or three, and if you want more slaves and gold from there, bring a LOTTA spears.
Thin Gov't: Leniency is still in effect. (last turn).
MAGIC QUOTE OF THE TURN
Re: Scaled Wurms,
"Flourishing during the Ice Age, these Wurms were the bane of all Kjejdorans. Their great size and ferocity made them the subject of countless nightmares - they embodied the worst of the Ice Age." -Kjeldor: Ice Civilization

MERC LEADERS none
UNITED STATES OF ASIA (JIHPEN)
Jiro Akimoto, President of Jihpen
DIPLOMACY: Aichi (f), Saga (a), Shikoku (t), Shimane (f), Toyama (fa)
The Japanes figured to continue the consolidation of the Japanese islands through diplomacy, with considerable success. Improvements were made in the home region, and the eastern port Edo, at the expense of some relatively unnecessary infantry.
EMPIRE OF KOGURYO (dead)
read above line
DIPLOMACY: read line above
Kai Kaesomun looked for the saving solution to the problem facing the once-mighty Korean Empire. What he saw was the Honan army and king 80 miles north of Kaiching, waiting for who-knows-what.
He prepared for the worst, which took a surprisingly long time in coming. What came was the Honan AND Shensi armies, and about 12,000 mercs as well, with their famed general, Shang Tsung.
The previous tactics of the Honan ("Everybody, climb over the wall and kill everyone inside.") were used, and effective again. The city walls and 3,000 citadel guards took their toll on the mercenary contingent, but in the end, they were all slain. Kai Kaesomun took his own life in disgrace at home, and his city fared little better. Making an example of the Koguryan state, Kaiching was looted and burned to its foundations. The surrounding region was also looted on the armies' way home.
THE WU YUE CHINESE KINGDOM
Quian Qui, God-Emperor of the Middle-Kingdom
DIPLOMACY: Taiping(a), Hwai (t), Jiangxi (nt), Chekiang (t), Hubei (a), Szechwan (fa)
Quian Qui went the diplomacy route like the Japanese with pretty decent effect as well. A huge effort was put into the improvement of the capitol city. Quian also opened trade with the Hong Kong traders to the south of his kingdom.
THE HONAN CHINESE KINGDOM
Zhu Wen the Liberator, Emperor of China
DIPLOMACY: Yen (ea)
The Honan king, pleased immensely at the success of his expedition so far, recieved word that the Shensi armies were indeed coming to assist him against the Koreans. So he waited, ... and waited. Two years of waiting saw the death of his best general in a training bout. A year after that, Li Keyong and his 8,000 troops arrived in Zhu Wen's camp. And Zhu was really tired of sitting around, so they immediately marched on the Korean capitol.
The fight there was quick and decisive, with only a few hundred of the 12,000 mercenaries as casualties.
Kai Kaesomun was found dead in his palace, and the city was looted and burned. Zhu shared half of the loot with Li Keyong, and also half of the loot from the region surrounding the then ex-capitol of the Korguryan Empire. Both armies then started their long journey home.
Zhu's Hopei ally was on diplomatic orders in Yen, where he left the Middle Kingdom. Hopei reduced their full alliance to an economic one.
THE SHENSI CHINESE KINGDOM
Li Keyong, The One-Eyed Dragon
DIPLOMACY: none
Li Keyong boogied up to meet the Honan army in Anshan, long time though it took. Zhu wen was quite impatient at that point to clobber someone, so Li wisely suggested they immediately march on the Koreans. Li Keyong took his portion of the loot and celebrated by getting seriously rat-face ripped. The heir to the kingdom, Yang K'ai-hui spent the years of his father's absence running the kingdom. .
THE HONG KONG TRADERS
Liu Van, King of Hong Kong
DIPLOMACY: Fujian (fa), Taiwan (a)
Liu Van took a cruise to Taiwan and found a queen for the kingdom there. Well, OK, it was really for himself, but he wanted to come off as very concerned for the wellness of the kingdom, and hey, a king's gotta have an heir or twenty. Before 920 AD they had three kids, one of them being a son and heir.
Hsi diplomats, led by Xian Wu, acquired the another ally in Fujian, and general Xiou Pao went west to guard the kingdom from intrusion.
THE DALAI LAMA
Kuo Mojo
DIPLOMACY: none
Early in 916 the Buddhist monks discovered the next Child of Light, one Kuo Mojo. The Dalai geve no instructions to his followers.

THE UNITED MONARCHY OF THE AVANS
Narathu Hsiapaw, King of all Burmese Peoples
DIPLOMACY: Padishan (ne)
Narathu went into the field, raiding for slaves and gold. Unfortunately, the regions he went after were, for the most part, sparsely populated. He took his queen along, and the rigors of travelling, pregnant, through the Thai mountains claimed the lives of two of his five new sons. He sent his Thaton ally to raid some neighboring regions to the south, and he found one of his target regions, Nakhon, under wraps by a VERY large Champa army. He wisely withdrew from any possible conflict there. The only leader left at home, Kurijaiga, was to the casual observer an effective admistrator for Narathu.
THE JAVAN FEDERATION
Koer Singh, President Sirivjavan
DIPLOMACY:Luzon (fa), Mon (ea)
Koer Singh spent his second term in Palembang with the rest of his administration, and had his diplomats visit the Philippine islands and the Asian mainland.
THE EMPIRE OF CHAMPA
Palpatyn, Emperor Viet
DIPLOMACY: Preikuk (f)
Palpatyn built even more troops to romp with in the northern reaches, and again gave them over to his Lieutenant while he stayed home and ruled his peoples. Improvements were made (again) in Khemer. Palpatyn's general and his ally went north (again) to get more slaves, and there was no one to refuse them or their GARGANTUAN army, not even the Avans. Palpatyn's diplomats were on a more peaceful trip, to propose marriage for the Champan heir to the Preikuk royalty. They were all over that one.
THE MAAORI SEAHOLD
Palaau Halmahera, Son of Sea and Sky
DIPLOMACY: Marianas (a)
Palau took a much deserved break from life, and got a nice tan too, as his chief diplomat Guido went and got closer ties (read more cash) from the Marianas. He labeled his eldest child heir to the Seahold, despite her being a woman. There a factions in the islands who resent this, figuring Palaau's son Wabodon Soba (yes, it's a hard name to say, everybody just calls him Ned) would be more agreeable, even though he's only 14 years old. They got their way in the end, as Palaau's daughter Pel drowned while bathing alone in Makale Bay near Jailolo.
THE KATOOMBA RIDERS
Yamma Yamma,
DIPLOMACY:Toowomba (ea)
Yamma Yamma played his part as wise and benevolent ruler, while his son and heir, Yamma Lamma, went to Toowomba and found a wife and an economic ally. The surf was down.

Mehtarsarad found a wife from Palas, and started his own family.

Mahendrapala, Mansurashah, Protector of the Indus
DIPLOMACY: Sukkur (ea), Carmania (c)

Aditya returned to his home in Kollam, and from there, ruled over and arbitrated for his people. His son and heir, Abas, was being instructed in the arts of government administration by Adiya's vizier, Akbator.
The Malabar people were visited by one of Aditya's diplomats, and his Seylan ally kept his vigilant eyes out for the kingdom.
THE ABBASID CALIPHATE
Ali, Kaliphat Rasul Allah
DIPLOMACY: Hahmar (a), Mosul (fa), Abadan (t), Ahvaz (c), Fars (c), Diyal (h), Media (nt), Carhae (ne)
The Caliph Ali went to north to the juicy region of Mosul and told them, "If you join my Caliphate, I'll build you a real nice city like mine." Seeing how nice and big (read prosperous) the merchants were in Bagdad, the leaders of Mosul agreed rather promptly. The Caliph married off all of his sisters to various Sultans as well, but the "honor" of marrying the Caliph's sisters was lessened considerably by the noted lack of dowry for any of them. The Diyalans in particular were upset about it enough to refuse Ali.
THE MAHMUD GHAZNI PERSIAN KINGDOM
Qara Bachkam, Kophatshah
DIPLOMACY: Otrar (t)
General Apu went to find some slaves to work for their soon to be king Qara Bachkam. He got them out of the Himalayan foothils in Kush, but never saw Merv again. He died on the return trip, during a rest on the silk road in Samarkand. Qara was by then ready to assume the mantle of rulership to go along with his title. Meanwhile, the Shah's head diplomat Assad was in Otrar, and convinced the locals there to give tribute to the new Shah.

THE SAXON KINGDOM OF SUSSEX
Edward I, Saxon King of England
DIPLOMACY: none
King Edward discovered he'd better have another son or five, if he expected his line to continue on the English throne. So, he set to making some sons with his queen, and marginally succeeded. Of five children, at least the eldest was a son, and the kingdom rejoiced.
THE KINGDOM OF WEST FRANCIA
Lewis, President d' Allianc Francois
DIPLOMACY: Anjou (t), Lyonnais (a), Burgundy (f), Hainaut (fa), Flanders (ea), Brabant (ea), Languedoc (t)
Lewis continued the fine Gallic tradition (talking) and sent all of his leaders out to conduct diplomacy. They were literally, everywhere.
THE KINGDOM OF GERMANIA
Ludwig III, Rex Germanicus
DIPLOMACY: Moravia (nt), Austria (c)
Ludwig went to visit the Czech ans Austrian nobility, in efforts to integrate them into the now Kingdom if Germania., and visited the site of the foundations of Munich, in Bavaria. He also changed the official language of the court, to the native language, in place of the Frankish tongue of Chalemagne's court. One of his advisors stayed in Franconia to file stacks of parchments, while the other, Johan, was sent to Lorraine. He never made it there, and a body was found, though it couldn't be positively identified. Foul play was suspected, but unproven. On a more positive note, Wilhelm reached his maturity, and was named crown prince and heir to the Danish throne.
THE DANISH KINGDOM
Guthrum, Rex Danmark
DIPLOMACY:Friesland (a)
Guthrum stayed in Jutland and ruled the wide Danish Kingdom, while having more kids with the queen., and his minister Kurn Ravenrider spent his time supervising the scribes tallying all the kings taxes. The Danish heir, Truan, was in Friesland acquiring an ally for his father, and released all Danish claims on Smaland. The Pope's scribes showed up in Gormavn, and Kurn put them right to work, making sense where there was no sense before.
THE LOMBARD KINGDOM OF ITALY
Giovanni d' Orsini, Rex Sognari
DIPLOMACY: Savoy (t), Tyrol (nt)
The last king of the Frium dynasty spent his last two years on the earth trying to have another son to take the place of the one he himself outlived. Two daughters later, he died in his sleep. His admiral Giovanni Orsini convinced the locals in Savoy to give tribute to Berengar, and was on his way to Tuscany when he heard of Berengar's death. Thinking he could lay a stronger claim to the throne than any of Berengar's four daughters, he went directly to Genoa, and was approved by many, including Pope Gregory. His Venetian ally was in Tyrol, where he managed to get them to join the kingdom, in name at least.
Giovanni expected a little of that ol' payback from the Siqillians, but none arrived. Good thing too, since he was much too busy to oversee any reactionary forces. He did get a look at his new city, Milano, and installed an infantry platoon in its central fortress.
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PAPACY
Gregory V, Il Papa, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Patriarch of the West, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Papal States, and Servant of the Servants of God, whew.
DIPLOMACY:none
Gregory founded an abbey in Verona, and sent Bishop Cristopher to convert the pagans of Slovenia, while he himself continued his missionary work in Russia. The home region of Latium was also improved.
THE NAPOLI KINGDOM
Ricardo, Rex Napoli
DIPLOMACY: Cyprus (nt), Catalonia (c).
King Ricardo hopped on a ship and headed east. No, way east. Over Cyprus way. As he talked to the Greeks there, his diplomat Floris was on the other side of the planet, and laid Neapolitan claims to the Catalonian coast of Iberia. Ricardo left specific instruction with his underlings to not catapult any water balloons at visiting trade ships or their crews.
AL AGHRABID EMIRAT AS SIQILLI
Amar Layth, Emir as Siqilli, Fist of Allah
DIPLOMACY: none
Ibrahim gave no orders to his fellow Siqillians, but things happened anyway. Ibrahim himself died in 917 AD and left no sons to become the next Emir. his younger brother, Amar Layth was therefore given the mantle of leadership over Siqilli. His Sardinian ally also died, but his replacement elected to continue the alliance agreed to both parties' predecessors.
UMMAYAD CALIPHAT AL CORDOBA
Abdullah Nasir, Caliph al Cordoba, Infidel's Bane
DIPLOMACY: Andalusia (a), Valencia (fa)
Abdullah stayed at home these last few years, spending quality time with the spousal unit, making some more Cordovan royalty, and ruling over the Iberian peninsula as a good Caliph ought to. And it's a good thing he had more kids, because his leaders and children were dropping dead all over. His fourth child, Abu, died of a sword wound while training, and his eigth child, died before it reached a full year old. Both of his lieutenants croaked within a year of each other, and his Andalusian ally was thrown from his horse on a hunting trip, and killed. Fortunately the Cordovan heir, Asad, was in Andalusia at the time and diplomacized the region to join the Caliphate properly. Abdullah's government investments paid off as well.

THE FATAMID EMPIRE
Farouk Hussayn, Imam Ubaydullah al Mahdi
DIPLOMACY:Mansura (a)
Farouk set about to find hisself a woman, and Thebes was where he went. He dropped by Faiyum on the way, but they weren't impressed when they figured out it wasn't their women he was interested in. The Thebans were more amenable to an alliance. So he got married, and took his new queen back to Egypt to start a family, but their first child and son died when less than a year old. They had another child, a daughter this time, but Farouk still wondered if he had offended Allah. Farouk's general Al'Kasim went slaving in the western fringes of the empire, and returned with even more slaves than on his previous expedition. Farouk spirits still sagged.
THE SONGHAI HERDSMEN
Minkah Kersil
DIPLOMACY: Adawara (t), Garou (ne), Arauane (c), Terhazza (c), Bir-el-Khazaim (c)
Diplomacy was the order of the day. The Kersil Minkah went north after his success in Segu, to try to get the Adawarans to join closer in the "Songai Co-prosperity Sphere". His general Osei remained in Ghana making vague promises to the local leaders that he would remove the garrisons if only they would give tribute and also enter the Sphere, as the Adawarans did. The Ghanans thought about long and hard (for almost 2 seconds) before they made it real clear to Osei they would not enter any diplomatic discussions WHATSOEVER as long as there were Songhai troops running things in Kumbi-Saleh.
Mikah hired some camel troops to travel into the desert with Minkah's general Natomba, searching for some lost city of gold. What they found was a trading post at one the several oases they claimed. Expand the Sphere, and all that. Finally, Minkah's Segu ally and brother-in-law went to talk things over with the Garoulians, and found he would need to spend a lot more time working those discussions to get an appreciable effect.
THE HIDDEN KINGDOM OF THE KONGO
T'Dolo, King of the Dark
DIPLOMACY: none
The Dark King continued ruling the land, and sent his ally to Matadi to bring them in to the empire. On his way there, he got eaten by a very large snake, and leaderless, his home region (Teke) went friendly to the Hidden Kingdom. T'Dolo's eldest son also died, leaving his last son as heir to the dark throne.
KINGDOM OF NIGERIA
N'wanko, Prince of Benin
DIPLOMACY: Ife (ea)
N'wanko hired a diplmoat, M'bembe, and together they went across the river Niger to Ife and entered into an alliance with them. Part of the agreement was a royal marriage for N'wanko, and he returned to Onitsha to have some little guys. The home region and city were abuzz with activity, as roads and other public works were constructed all over the place. N'wanko also spent a king's fortune (literally) in the creation of certainly the finest learning center on the continent, perhaps the world.
THE KINGDOM OF TCHAD
Yes Vorta, Omar Kanembu
DIPLOMACY: Zerma (nt), Nupe (c)
Yes travelled way west, across the Niger, into the Zerma lands and got them to agree to enter the Kanebu nation, in name at least, while his lieutenant Dunama tried the same with the Nupe tribes. They weren't quite as impressed as the Zermans, probably cuz Dunama wasn't the king. He also ordered the construction of a port fortess on the banks of the Niger in Gorouol, and had some trade ships port there between trips to Benin and Konitsha.
THE PAINTED WOLF TRIBES (ZIMBABWE)
Chanu Follak't, Bloodspear
DIPLOMACY: Vaal (a), Mapungibwe (ne), Uhalu (nt)
Chanu's orders for his lieutenants was diplomacy, and he led them by example. His first stop was in Vaal, where he acquired an ally, and then dropped in on his other, Mapungubwe ally, who wasn't ready to give his subjects over to Chanu. Chanu's lieutenants weren't nearly so successful, mosty because they both died on their journeys, The first, Randlet died on the way to Matopos, and his second, Uhalu, died shortly after the Shona leaders to join the tribes of the Bloodspear. There is truth to that black cloud, silver lining blabber Chanu's always spouting, though, since he found some remarkable leaders to replace his former lieutenants.

THE MAYAN ASTRONOMERS
Itzam named his eldest son Zamche to be heir, and tarvelled off to Chontal to acquire tribute from the natives there. Zamache took Itzam's Quiche ally to Totonac and agreed to a military alliance, after much joking about "real men". Efforts by Itzam's diplomats in Quiche were notably without notable effect.
QUIRO MAPUCHE
Shirokas gave way for Bariloc to rule, who lter died and made room for the next Chosen one, Mali. He and his advisor Taloric governed the Mapuche as best they could, hich wasn't as bad as some had expected. The homeland was made even nicer than before.
THE ANDEAN INCAN EMPIRE
Running Rook spent his last few years instructing his son in the ways of governing, although some say he wasn't very attentive. He had wife, you know and seven kids now. However, when the Cium passed away, Telcio took the reins of government and handled things just fine. In fact, he has kind of a flair when he cuts those hearts out on the altars. He showed a kind side too, sometimes "accidentally", knocking the victims unconscious before doing the deed. While he was taking care of business at home, his diplomats went to expand the empire, and the response was remarkably uniform, if not remarkable.
ANASAZI
King Hasaan returned to Chaco Canyon to rule over his people, and sent his General Dull Knife to gain him another ally in Tiwa, which he did. His Hohokam ally went further, to Navajo and spoke with the Pueblo tribes there. In a move confusing to many, Hasaan named his 10 year old daughter, Morning Star, heir to his "presidency", making the nation wonder if he planned on allowing elections anymore.
THESONOMA KINGDOM
White Shark and his Lieutenenant stayed in place and continued the diplomacy speeches of the last five years. He found a wife in Patwin, which added considerably to the negotiations, and ordered the foundation for the city of Tharsis, in Pomo.
THE IROQOUIS NATION
Uphand spent his time in Erie, while sending all of his leaders, including his heir and his Michagan ally , way south to Yamasee. There the Iroquios heir Dark Feather found a wife, and the Iroquois Empire found an ally.
