Turn 95 Orders Due By          Wednesday February 16, 2005

A

nnouncements

1.      Nations in Blue are OPEN POSITIONS and looking for players.

2.      Please review the new rules document posted in the Yahoo Groups Files section and on the Lords 2 home page.

  1. ***Bombards:  This rule has been dropped.  All existing bombards will be converted to SIEGE troops.
  2. ***Navies and Leaders: All naval units and leaders with naval units will always end the turn at a land region or city area.  They can no longer end the turn in a sea zone.  If your orders show your naval units ending in a seazone I will automatically put them at a port of my choosing and assess a random percentage loss rate to account for lack of supplies.  This makes it easier on me and it makes sense if you look at AP’s per year (how can a fleet stay at sea from Oct-March without putting in for re-supply?)
  3. ***Transfers:  The new order sheet is pretty clear where transfers go.  Please be equally clear who and where your transfers are going.  Also, both incoming and outgoing transfers must be noted by both the giving and receiving nations or the transfer is considered LOST.
  4. ***Leader Orders:

1.                            All leader orders must show the “Starting Units” and “Ending Units.”  If you leave it blank when the leader actually had ending units they are LOST.  Also, please do not use verbage like same or unchanged – spell out what units they have (i.e. 10ec,10xc,5xei,10t,5w).

2.                            If picking up or dropping off a Garrison please annotate in the notes section next to the location the exact action (Pick up or Leave) and what units are being affected (i.e. Pick Up Garrison 4i,4xi,2s).

3.                            Ensure you mark down all regions and cities you move through and annotating all AP calculations.  The new orders sheet should make this fairly self explanatory.

A Handy Guide to Determine Your Ref’s Attitude Towards You if You are in Arrears

If you run up a negative account balance it can be difficult to determine the level of emotion the referee may have towards you.  What follow is a convenient guide to let you know exactly where you stand.

-$5.00 or Less: hey, it happens.  Please pay your balance as soon as possible.

-$5.00 -- -$10.00: c’mon, it’s not like this game is really expensive.  Please pay your balance.  Your kids will thank you for it someday.

-$15.00 or More: Urge to kill rising!

Modifiers: people who try to make arrangements with me regarding payment (or partial payment) will generally get a favorable hearing.  Players who exceed three turns of debt without keeping me apprised of their situation will be dropped and word will be sent out to the other campaigns warning the refs of the offending player’s deadbeat proclivities.  Players who run up a negative balance and then drop w/o repayment, will have their names sent out to other referees as mentioned above and will have massive karmic debt for being a scoundrel and lout.

Fujiwara Japan (Kyoto in Yamato)

Yabu Fujiwara, Emperor & Shogun of Nippon.

Emperor Fujiwara ruled with a quiet manner and such was the way of the last 5 years.  Missionaries made some minor headway in Koguryo while the diplomats were sent to numerous lands.  In Mantap, Lt Kanada was able to convince the local lords to swear allegiance to the Empire and in Manchou Shozu Asari laid claim to the land.  Doi Chosi was able to make some better headway and swayed the people of Khungari to become an ally of Japan.   An exploration fleet was sent out and some new rudders were gained in the south pacific.

The Empire of the Fijian Isles (Suva on Fiji)

Ratu Tavanavanuva, Emperor of the Fijians, Ruler of the Open Oceans

The fairly new city of Suva was expanded and a vast amount of public works were built in the regions of Wewak and Kalemburu.  King Tavanavanua ruled over his peaceful nation and was blessed with a new baby girl.

The young sailor on duty in the crow’s nest perked up at what appeared to be movement on the horizon.  He quickly stood up and focused on the ships in the distance.  Who were they he thought, he didn’t recognize the colors.  They could be the Japanese or maybe a new Avan vessel, he wasn’t sure as they wer stil too far away to tell.  Upon hearing the warning for unknown ships off the port bow the captain ran to see, however there was nothing there.  He questioned the crew and no one besides the watch sailor saw these mysterious ships.  The captain knew from experience that more often than not it was simply the sea playing tricks on young green sailors and dismissed the it as a false alarm.

Empire of Naiman in Honan (Abgar in Honan)

Kha-Kheng, Emperor and Great Khan of the Naiman

Kha-Keng ordered the improvement of the public works in several regions while he ruled from his palace.  A large diplomatic mission (with a sizable gold tribute) seemed to be effective but still not convincing enough to change the people of Lu’an.  Several thousand troops were given new armor and weaponry, though it seemed quite a bit heavier than their previous set.

Wei Empire (Am’I in Szechwan)

Chang Liu, Emperor of Wei

After hearing of the disturbances in the nation of Jaunpor, the Emperor became concerned….about the wonderful trade that had been halted to all the fighting.  Determined to solve the problem he dispatched General Chang Cong with 40,000 troops to re-establish trade with the new nations of Jaunpor.  Upon reaching the now independent region of Tibet, the General formed his ranks and marched in thinking the mere show of force will bend these people to the will of the Emperor.  The people of Tibet felt differently about the situations and were determined to stay independent, while they put up a mighty fight they were no match for the Wei Army and were subdued after one round of battle.  “Surely, the worst of the journey is behind us” muttered the General’s aide, to which the General replied “I am confident it is.”  After numerous battles in Tibet, Sikkim, the cities of Lhasa and Kakarbhitta as well as with the regional fortresses the General was weary and ordered the army to put up camp.  “How could these peasants have put up such a fight, how could they have killed almost 7,000 of my troops, did they not realize we were only trying to restore what once was?” quipped the General to his aide, “Apparently not sir, maybe we should inform them of our intentions and ask politely next time.”

Emperor Liu ordered numerous investments into the Empire, a very sizable one to enhance the University system in fact.  The cities of Macao, HSI, and Ch’ang-te were all increased in size while roads were built from Hupei to Funiu and from Szechwan to Chiennan.  Missionaries sent to the City of HSI returned nearly empty handed.

Tribes of Mongol (Bator in Mongol)

Ghonkul, Khan of the Northern Tribes

Ghonkul surveyed the horsemen tribes he had finally solidified together, granted it took the steel of his sword to do it, but it was done.  The young warlord looked forward to expanding his grasp on the world, and shedding the blood of those who stood in his way.

The Scythian Sultanate of Sheba  (Ma’rib in Sheba)

Coman Khalid Rholah, Khan of the Scythian Turks, Protector of the Caliph and the Holy Places.

The daylight assassination attempt on the King was bold and many thought stupid, and it would have worked if it wasn’t for those crazy junior Scythian scouts.  They recognized the unique footwear of the Zorat assassins and alerted the guards during the speech.  Numerous investments were made into improving the regions of Al Qunfundhah and Ash Shihr.  A royal wedding occurred between the Kings eldest daughter and his most trusted Lt, Sofian.  The wedding was cut short by word of an invasion to the north by the Zorat Church of Reunification.  With the King ruling at home and Prince Omar assisting, two different types of battles wages on with the ZCR.  In 866 the ZCR forces numbering some 8,400 (mostly regular infantry) marched south from Zufar into Hadramuht.  The ZCR scouts were greatly misinformed since they let their Army march directly into an expecting Scythian defense led by Lt Mahmud.  The Scythian defenses were comprised of 4400 Heavy Infantry backed by an equal number of Field Forts.  The ZCR line was broken almost instantly as the casualty rate skyrocketed.  The ZCR Lt Hamadrat was wounded in the exchange but was able to escape during the disorderly retreat back to Zufar.  All told the ZCR left 6,000 dead on the filed while the prepared Scythians lost a mere 400.  The other battle was one of a religious nature, both the ZCR and the Scythians were madly trying to convince the people of Quatar which way was the path to true happiness.  The ZCR won the day barely with a slight increase in believers for them.

Zoroastrian Church of Reunification (Ctesiphon in Selucia)

Melik, Supreme Mobad of the Holy Church of Zoroaster, Hebadan-Herbad of the Light, Dihgan of Ctesiphon

The priests of the mighty Zorat faith went forth and established churches in Quatar and Dubai, Abbeys in Hammar and Kuwait, a Monastery in Antioch, and a Cathedral in Fars.  Besides the battle of Faith and the battle of Hadramuht against the Scythians (see Scythians) the ZCR was able to convert the region of Tiz and receive some grains and foodstuffs from Zanzibar.

The Sassanid Empire (Susa in Ahvaz)

Tilgath-Piliser II, Shahanshah of the Sassanids, Ruler of Mesopotamia, Lord of Persia.

“There he goes!!” shouted the Byzantine Constable as he ran after the hooded man.  “I can’t be captured, my father won’t hear of it” muttered Prince Rahim as he ran for his very life.  Rahim could not comprehend how he could have been spotted again, this was the second time his cover had been blown but this time it was in front of the local constabularies.  “That’ll teach them damn Persians, sending us their misfits” stated the Constable as he looked upon the lifeless body of what he thought was a mere vagabond when in fact it was Prince Rahim of the Sassanid Empire.

Emperor Piliser went about the routine of running his great empire with glee.  He was blessed with a large treasury and a great number of people entering service of the realm.  Development was put forth on the cities of Batumi, Ardabil, Baku, Vanis, Tabriz, Jengen, Erech, Assur, Koni, and Kangan as they each grew in size.  The regions of Diyala and Arbilig were put to the plow and cultivated while a massive Great Wall was built between Abasagia and Georgia, Between Aleppo and Cilicia then on down the coast of Aleppo and Lebanon.  (One would think someone is becoming agoraphobic).  The Emperor also established a small governmental agency to seek out the possibility of developing his empire into a Consitutional Monarchy.

The military supply clerks nearly quit in protest to the huge numbers of new troops they had to outfit.  The lead clerk had to re-read the order almost a dozen times, it really did say 120,000 new recruits.  He bemused that they would have to start handing out table knives as weapons pretty soon.

The diplomats of the realm faired pretty good these past few years as they were able to negotiate an economic alliance with Edessa, a full alliance with Shirvan, and got the local lords of Arbiliq to fly the empires colors.

The Eastern Roman Empire (Constantinople in Constantinople)

Leo, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire

While dutifully tending to his country, King Leo increased the size of Athens.  He also spent more on public works than most lesser countries earn.  Stavros the Heir to the throne founded the city of Nikomedia in Transylvania.  Lt Anthanasios helped the king by tending to the many day to day tasks of the country and because of a gut feeling he had ordered every Citadel and fort in the nation to increase their defensive structures by several levels.  Much headway was made in the conversion of nearby territories to the Church of Christ.  Lt Paul successfully negotiated a treaty with Moldavia to have then as full allies.  The rest of the governmental lieutenants and Princes spent the years preparing for something that never happened.

Church of Christ (Durazzo in Epirus)

John, “The Pilgrim”, Legate of Durazzo, Rock of the Church of Christ, Pontiff of the Holy See, Keeper of the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven

Legate Nemo ascended and took the Pontifical name of Hadrian II.  To honor the name change the city of Durazzo was expanded and bishops sent forth to spread the word.  Unfortunately, most people were simply ignoring the bishops and not much was accomplished.  An abbey was founded in Dobruja as well as a Monastery in Macedonia and Corinth, but every other attempt at spreading the word failed.

The Kingdom of Kur (Vilnius, in Kur)

Prebich, King of Europe, Prince of Kur

King Prebich sent forth a great deal of his people to colonize the region of Prussia with much success.  A bridge was finally built between Kur and Kiritich (putting all the ferry operators out of business – damn outsourcing).  Trade was opened via land and sea with two new partners.  Things were going good for the King, until his Diplomats went forth, the region of Turov thought “why not” so they agreed to a very loose arrangement with the king while the region of Musa agreed to even less.  When the diplomats hit Daugava it was like talking to a stone wall, no response at all.  The fun came when they finally reached Pinsk and were run out of the region in the middle of the night by an angry mob (something to do with a sheep).

The Aesir (Valaskjalf in Kirivitch)

Ivan, High Priest of Odin, Grand Legate of the Aesiri

The Kingdom of Kievan Rus (New Kotka in Kiev)

Pavel, Czar and Boyar of Kiev

hmmm…let’s see…The King ruled, drank some vodka, and had a few new kids, drank some vodka, while the city of New Kotka (not New Vodka like the king really wanted) expanded and Lord Abi plied the locals of Smolensk with so much Vodka they agreed to everything and were welcomed into the Kingdom.

The Ostrogothic Empire (Vysehrad in Moravia)

Adalbert, Emperor of the Ostrogoths

There was a hint of something in the air, whispers and rumor were abound as the seeds of change had finally taken root and blossomed.  The mighty Ostrogothic Empire under the great leadership of King Adalbert had managed to free his empire of slavery and move his people to an agrarian economy.  The opposition had tried to stir a civil war (seeing as how slave labor was used to advance the change) but there effort lost steam as the majority of the people were happy and overjoyed at the transformation.  The king would was honored with statues proclaiming him Adalbert the Father of Freedom.  He was blessed with several children while ruling from MoraviaOstrava increased in size and a great number of improvements were made in Kauyavia.  Numerous construction projects were completed such as a road to Banat, a bridge and a road to Croatia, and ½ a road to Bosnia.  The Silesians were convinced to fully commit to the Ostrogothic Empire and trade was opened with Kiev.

The Varangian Empire (Starja in Novgorod)

Herger, Emperor of Varangia, Ruler of the Slav and Norse

The Varangian Emperor ruled over a very peaceful nation.  Some small investments were made into improving public facilities and into expanding the peoples government structure.  A continued investment into educating the people of the possibility of a new and better way of thinking was steadily improving.

The Danish Empire (Cologne in Lorraine)

Snorri, Emperor of the Danes

King Snorri spent a great deal of time ruling and on the docks of the merchant ships.  He was convinced he could do a better job at this “trade business” than his advisors could.  He arranged and rearranged the routes of numerous shipping companies and opened a new route with the Vandals, only time will tell if he was successful.  Meanwhile, the cities of Cologne, Jutland, Hannover, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Utrecht all increased in size.  Many of the King’s government leaders were sent out as diplomats to varying success.  Brandenburg and Rheims seemed to be taking well to the diplomacy but remained unchanged, whereas Fjordane became a full ally and Bergen was laid claim to.  Finally, the king’s son Bertrand was crowned prince of the realm during a ceremony.

The Empire of Wessex (Southampton in Wessex)

Otto IV, Bretwalda of Britain, Emperor of Wessex and King of the English

The nation was abound with economic investments, public works improvements were made in many different regions while a great deal of naval construction took place in Southhampton.  The King attempted numerous times to beget more children, but alas his age had caught up with him and he did not have a single one.  Several of the nations leaders focused their efforts on wooing Ponthieu as to the many benefits of their way of life, and it was a rousing success as the region gave itself fully to the Wessex Empire.

The old fisherman burst into the pub saying he had just seen the most incredible thing.  He proceeded to tell the tale from his morning adventure about seeing two of the largest ships he’d ever seen with the strangest flags he’d ever seen.  He said he could fit four merchant ships from his day, which wasn’t saying much since he was a ripe old 78.  The old man went on and on about these two ships until the bartender finally said “Allright, allright, I’ll give you a pint if ya shut up!” for he knew the old man was nothing more than an old blowhard who loved to weave a tall tale or two in hopes of scoring a free pint (which of course it did).

The Kingdom of Songhai (Mali in Songhai)

Badu, King of Songhai

The people of Songhai were busy new intellectual endeavors as the kingdom made sizable contributions to the Royal education system as well as new training camps for virtually every type of warfare known.  The people of Segu felt safer within the kingdom as a new Fortress was erected while bigger and larger battlements were added to the Fortress in Songhai.  A road (or half of one at least) was built from Nupe to the border of Haursa.  The king himself spent a great portion of time convincing the people of Gorouol and the City of Teohmie to fly the Songhai banner, while they were pleased by the kings words they decided to fly their own banner still but signed a treaty of full alliance with the King.

The Kwarafan Empire (Unambo in Ife)

Brenlus, Lord of the Lower Nigher, Emperor of Kwarafa

Advisor Babtunde traveled to the Holy City of Benu under protest, but the King’s orders were the King’s orders, and he felt like keeping his head for a while longer.  Once there he started to learn of the teaching s of the Spider God and quickly saw the light.  Babtunde couldn’t wait to get back to the King and show him the true path.  The laborers in Kwarafa were busy putting up defensive forts and increasing city walls in more places than they could count.  They also managed to build the other half of a road from Hausa to Nupe, and as busy as they were still managed to clearcut the region of Kafin and put the till to it.  The king felt it was time to meddle in the business of the merchants as they were becoming complacent and there was more money to be had if done properly.

The Empire of Kanem-Bornu (Buram in Darounga)

Muto I, Emperor of Kanem-Bornu, Lord of Chad.

The colonists felt that this new land would be good, so they settled in Adowa in numbers.  They liked it so much they erected a port city almost as soon as they arrived, and not to be outdone they decided some defenses were in order (after all this ain’t like the old days of the 7th century when things were safer) so they built a Fortress to watch over them.  Back home, the king ordered the cities of Kurayama and Rabak to expand and sent in the royal engineers to oversee the building of numerous public works.  The City colleges of Kwarafa felt blessed by the sizable royal endowment they had received and began offering night classes.  The Regions of Lalibela and Atbara were clearcut and cultivated.  A plethora of missionary work was afoot and a half dozen regions understood the word of the Spider god.

The Emirate of Abyssinia (Ginir, in Kefa)

Mossadeq, Emir of Abyssinia, Sword of Islam

The Royal Engineers could hardly believe the kings orders, did he know it would take them almost 5 yrs to do what he asked!  Sullenly, they made preparations to do his bidding; build onto six existing cities, establish a new city called Sidamo, and raise two new fortresses as well as a smattering of public works.  The lead engineer thought “ all this while he rules from his luxurious palace, what a pompous ……”

The Empire of Zanzibar (Podab on Socotra)

Kobe, Emperor of Zanzibar

“Praise the high heavens” stated the dean of the royal university as he opened the chest with the kings’ gift, “With this we can prove once and for all that the world IS flat”.  Numerous public works were also bestowed by the King while he was away attempting to convince the people of Mogadishu of his prowess and ability as a king.  They half-heartedly bought it and pledged to be a tributary of his, without any payments of course.  A postal road was completed from Rozwi to Gorongo.

The Kingdom of Cape (Toluma in Cape)

Nobata, King of the Xhosa

King Nobata saw the only way his people were going to thrive was to make vast economic and governmental improvements – and so it was done.  The royal treasuries were emptied as military training camps were established, public works in almost all reaches of the empire built and additional administrators hired to help increase the efficiency of the ruling of the kingdom.
